Are You A Musician?
and if so, what do you play? for how long? what style? fav influence?
i've been playing drums for about 10 years now, started out with the punk but now i play mostly rock stuff. i'm open to pretty much anything though. right now i'm rockin' the older TD-10 Model v-drums with a DW5000 double pedal. and i have to say the biggest influences on me are Abe Cunningham - Deftones, Danny Carey -Tool, Joey Jordison - Slipknot, Branden Steineckert - The Used (i don't care what you say, he's a sick drummer) and many others i just can't think right now.head to head, chest to chest, which country is the very best? and in the land of rape and honey, you pray.

sad as i am to say i am actually very talented with a trumpet, and i also play guitar. 6 and 12 string
as far as influences go, its hard for me to nail them down. i am very eclectic. everything from chip-tunes (8-bit) to classical, to some disturbed and old hank williams, and all the in-between

Re: Are You A Musician?
I play guitar, only acoustic. I'm not sure if I've told this story here, probably have, but here's the way I got started: Coming home from a camping trip, my Dad spots a guitar case lying in a ditch off the highway. Inside was a perfect condition Yamaha acoustic, nothing elaborate, but an acoustic guitar in pristine condition, nonetheless. That thing stuck around my house forever, and finally, probably 8 years later, I finally picked it up and started playing. I still have that original guitar and have yet to buy a new one. Suits me fine. I've been playing for almost 3 years now.
I like to pick old country songs from my days as a child as well as play a little reggae/surf rock. You know, the upstrokes on the strings all the time as opposed to the down strokes! I'm still not that great, but I can play. And I can sing. I've thought about uploading one of my songs, but the recordings are all hella shitty.
Xplodr! (my bro) plays drums, been playin' em since he was in the 5th grade or so.
Canadian, having been in the punk phase, I'm surprised you didn't list Travis Barker as one of your fave drummers. Now I know some of you tard-o's are going to say Blink-182 isn't punk, but the old Blink....that was for sure as hell punk. I don't know how you could deny it. And that foo' rocks on the drumzees.

I started off on the piano when I was young (concert level grandmother who wanted a successor), but I didn't enjoy it even though I was very good at it. Then, I discovered the cello after a few years. That was in the sixth grade, and I've been playing since (almost 10 years now).
I play a Wayne Burak, and I particularly enjoy Bach's cello suites. The great thing about them is that Bach only wrote the title and key signature in stone (I have a copy of the original music as recorded by his wife), so you can play them at what ever volume, tempo, or style you want. It's that freedom of choice in how you play that is so wonderful.
As for influences, well... Definitely Yo-Yo Ma; it's sort of a no-brainer. He's wonderful live (I saw him during his Red Silk tour), and if you kicked away his chair during a concert, he wouldn't fall down. He pretty much performs for multiple hours in a perennial squat. Another influence is Pablo Casals, he is the father of modern cellists and is an absolutely amazing example of a human being. I highly recommend reading his biography.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: Are You A Musician?
I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now. I have an electric Epiphone Les Paul and an acoustic Taylor.
I love playing classic rock (anything from Beatles to Metallica), but lately I have been playing as many Red Hot Chili Pepper songs as I can learn...I love to jam with friends, although it doesn't happen often.
John Frusciante is one of my main influences, as well as Tom Morello, George Harrison.

Played the Guitar and Bass for about 15 years now, Banjo for the last 4, and working on the keys which will get better as a hammond with 2 leslie cabs is being gifted to me in the next week or two
I love learning/playing just about any style of music from metal to jazz to classical to blues to punk and back again. I think I'd be certifiably insane without music.
