    Coffee Break?

I've recently started drinking coffee...again. Every few months or so I'll go through my coffee kick and it seems as though I've started again. I'm no connoisseur of coffee, normally I just drink it black, but I was curious:

How many of you drink coffee on a regular basis? I know for some, it's like a staple in their lives. If you do drink it, how do you take it? Do you have a preference in blend? Roast your own? Give us coffee drinkers some good recommendations.

This last time I just picked up a Colombian roast. Tastes like coffee to me...then again, I don't know what really do look for other than the coffee smell and the blackness.

    Re: Coffee Break?

Mrs. Deus and I are the espresso types, and we have ourselves a fairly nice little setup at home that produces our morning lattes. Our machine is a Gaggia Classic and we have the Rancilio Rocky Doserless Grinder for grinding our beans. We eventually want to upgrade to a machine with a double boiler, such as the Gaggia Titanium Plus (although I'd like to get a semi-auto cause we have a perfectly awesome grinder, why replace it?).

For normal drip coffee, we have a press pot for just the two of us, and in storage (until our house is signed for and moved in) we have one of the Cuisinart Grind'n'Brew machines.

Generally speaking, we tend to buy the Espresso Blend from Caribou coffee. It's rather fun to take the exact same beans they use in their machines, run it through our grinder and machine, and have it taste better than what they serve.

If my memory serves me correct, bigdog is also coffee kind of guy.

Well, I'm not in to coffee in a huge way, but my dad enjoys a cup of espresso most mornings. I think his coffee grinder beats yours, though - it's about twice my age, looks a lot like this:

im no coffee connoisseur either, but i like my coffee with a nice amount of cream & sugar, not enough to drown out the flavor but enough to enhance it. i dont grind my coffee (far too lazy ^.^) but i usually go to a local coffee shop (not starbucks, the coffee there would deprive me of my soul, and im rather fond of it)

    Re: Coffee Break?

Deus, I had to take a defensive driving class at our local mall one time, started about 8 in the morning. Walking to the class, I passed a coffee stand where I picked up a cup of joe. While waiting for it, I see this guy walk up who is obviously hung-over, I can smell the whiskey from 3 feet away. He asks the guy behind the stand for something that could wake him up quick, and the guy says, "I've just got just the thing, it's a double shot of espresso." Well, I guess this guy was still in the "bar-drinking" mindset, because when the attendant set down his shot of espresso, the guy takes it like you'd take a shot at any bar, downs the whole shot in one big gulp.

Of course, he forgot/didn't know that this thing was scalding hot....funniest thing I've seen in awhile.

My wife and I also enjoy a decent cup of joe. Some of the best money we ever spent was on a decent coffee maker. We are very happy with a Technivorm Clubline from Sweet Maria's.

I brew mine in saline, so I can use an IV drip.

    Re: Coffee Break?

I used to wolf it down like a champ when I was studying. I've backed off, but I'll have a cup once in a while.

Suprisingly, my favorite brand of Coffee is "eight o' clock" coffee. It's less than half the price of the high end stuff, but tastes a helluva lot better than folgers and the like.

I was in college at the time and had no cash for a grinder ("Are you kidding, that's like...3 cases of beer") so I'd buy whole bean and grind it in Kroger. Takes all of 20 seconds. With 4 guys living in an apartment, we usually went through a pound before it got stale.

Great coffee, even for espresso (just grind it fine).
