Now on the flipside of that...
VIDEO RECORDING of someone is NOT always ok. Because it includes an audio track and depending on where you live, that may or may not be illegal even if they know about it.
Illinois where I live for instance has the most limiting laws on the books (for now) about that sort of thing. Both parties (recorder and recordee) have to give consent to be recorded or you are breaking an ancient and outdated wiretapping law.
Now even that has some exceptions. For instance you can record a cop doing his job ANYWHERE as long as you see a crime in progress or you believe a crime is about to be committed. So if the cop is just standing there you can't record him. If he has stopped you for speeding, you can record him (because a crime, you speeding, has been comitted).
Any time you bring audio into the mix you COULD be in deep shit. BUT, photography itself, almost never illegal.

Negative, they are in a public setting and no sound is being recorded... Perfectly legal.
FYI - I'm a private investigator and record people every day (no sound, of course) in public places. When you are out in the public, you have no expectation of privacy. And yes, I also have my degree in Criminal Justice, so I know about this kind of stuff.

No degree in criminal justice here. Just read a LOT on the subject.
I might also add that in this case... that haunted house setting... They are showing video all the time at the location and have uploaded a number of videos to youtube as well. It's almost a certainty that when you buy a ticket and before you walk in you are implicitly or explicitly agreeing to being videotaped and photographed.

Another interesting fact, is that let's say you and your wife are getting it on in the bedroom... Annnd the blinds are down, but you forgot to actually shut them..
That would actually be considered in the public and no expectation of privacy. You have to take steps to seclude yourself (actually closing the blinds) for it to be considered private. You could also be ticketed for public lewdness or indecent exposure.

Thank you for that in-depth response to a reply I half-assededly made on a subject that has no bearing on my life and that I will never look at again.
My first comment was more of a joke than anything, than you jumped in with your reply, so I responded again in the same manner...I really don't care if it's a violation of privacy, it was just a statement made in good humor.
