Before sending out prize requests to the companies, give bigdog a PM so he can see the thread and come up to speed on this. He actually has connections with several of those companies (and more), so he can give advice/get promo stuff.

As far as help, I would be glad to help, if you can list out some things that need to be done that the Admins could do for you, I would get right on it.

Thanks for the heads-up about BigDog too - I wanted him to have a read through the thread and kinda give me the 'OK' to start progressing further, seeing as I'm kinda using a part of the site that hasn't really been used, and I know any sort of competition can bring drama etc along with the fun! So whatever happens, I'm using this site as a platform for something we haven't really tried yet and I want to get it right first time. I wanted to keep this place ticking over nicely and get a few extra users (not sure they'll all post and become 'regular' members as such, but hopefully...) instead of ballsing it all up and people having a bad view of this place.

I'll shoot him over a quick PM about it and include a draft of the email I'd send out and see if he has any wise words to offer me.

I think if you guys could maybe make a couple of teams in the 'test tournament' that'd be great, and then just try doing some match reporting etc... I've added my team in there already, but I need to see how the match making / challenge part works as well as the reporting etc. I'll make it so that teams can just be one person and see how it goes from there...

Once I know it's all working, I'll tidy up the Ladders section a little bit and then promote a little bit more before looking to get it started towards the end of this month.

Created a team... added it to the ladder...

Can't figure out how to challenge, but it might be because mine is the only TEAM on the ladder. There's 3 individuals on the ladder but not teams.

this early in the year, most companies and their marketing departments/promotional stuff like this is dead. I'd put this off for a few weeks, or at least get the signups.

Perhaps L4DF could put up a $100 prize at newegg or something?

Cheers for the info man, appreciated! I'm not sure when we'll start it, I don't think there's any major rush, nought like it has happened on Xbox before (to my knowledge) so I know a lot of people are interested and I don't think they'll 'go cold' on the idea anytime soon!

That prize (well, anything really) sounds amazing!

Aaaaaaaaanyways, Corpse very nicely has helped me out with adding privileges to Hunty (good friend, helping me run this whole thing) for the Ladders section...

We've had a little play around this afternoon, and so far we've done a bit of testing and reporting etc... It's quite a cool lil' script really... I do have a few issues though, things like;

*Normal users can start ladders/tournaments by themselves (needs to be admin/mod only).

*Challenges have no date or time option to be agreed by the teams (that's cool though, they can sort it out through messages)

*It'd be good to be able to limit the 'score' (though a '1' for a win and a '0' for a loss is quite acceptable!)

*If you challenge a team who then deletes themselves, the challenge stays there with a blank field (auto-delete?)

*... there were a few trivial others, like can messages be generated and sent out to users on a personal inbox level to notify them of a challenge etc but nothing major...

So, not really many gripes with it as yet, all looking sweet!

If there's any way I could have access to the admin side of just that ladder section, that would be great. If not, I'm sure Corpse or Kanati can give me a hand with a few changes.... (If certain parameters exist in there) - don't worry, I promise not to fuck up the backend... (I kinda build and manage sites using CMS's and mods as part of my job, though mainly Joomla, ZenCart, Drupal, Wordpress, Moodle and phpBB...)

Oh my days!

I just went and re-read the release notes for the Tournament mod...

Everything I wanted to play around with is in the 'Future Features' list (so not available in this current release); Forum Tournaments & Ladders - vBulletin.org Forum

So basically, until bananalive updates the code, ignore the 'issues' bit of the above post, lolol - it should be fine for what we need at the moment!

Goody good. And for everyone else to know, I created another usergroup just for ladders, "Ladder Testing", right now zen and someone else zen requested are in the group. The group has all non-moderator powers available for ladders & tournaments.

Any probs or questions, give me a shout. I can't believe that the original thread has had like 4000+ views...

The only problem I can forsee is the fact that (I think, Hunty said he could do it anyways...) members can create their own ladder / tournament... Hmmm.
