but i have to say, nuclear power is the way to go.
when i first studied nuclear fusion/fission in school i immeadiately asked the teacher why we arent using that to create electric power... i still dont understand why we dont...
We don't because long ago a bunch of dirty hippies gave it a bad rap as a "dirty" power source and labeled it dangerous. This is reflected in laws that make it practically unprofitable to build a new reactor. I am sure that oil and coal companies were more than happy to perpetuate this myth. Nuclear Power supplemented by wind/solar/hydro plus affordable electric cars is the solution.

Sure, and being friendly supplemented by peace is the solution to war.

    Easier said than done.

If you say corn ethanol or fuel cells, I'm going to have to hit you. Sugarcane or switchgrass as fuel crops (the latter also making for a good supply of biodiesel) or hydrogen as a combustion source means we can actually talk to each other.

Burning our entire food supply for one of the worst sources for fuel (in terms of net gain) is a horrid idea.
Whatever happened to fusion? I remember hearing about it and reading about it back in the late 90s, right around the turn of the century/millenium, but then it seemingly fell off the face of Earth. Was it just not practical or something?

And what about the current hybrid-type cars that operate on both gas and electricity to increase overall fuel efficiency? Is there a reason - beyond our nation's affinity for affluence and big, loud, gas-guzzling thyroidal monsters - that the tech hasn't started becoming mass-produced?

I seem to remember reading that creating ethanol fuel actually consumed more energy than creating normal gasoline.

Ask yourself this.....if we went to hydrogen cars....do we really want some people basically having hydrogen bombs in thier back yard in order to fill up thier tanks

no...gasoline itself isnt even flammable....but the fumes are.

Actually, its the same Kraker. Chemistry FTW. Hydrogen is no more dangerous than some of the stuff we keep in our houses. Plus it is difficult to work with. We used to make Oxygen bombs at work. Fill a balloon with Oxygen, tie a string to it, light the string on fire. KAPOW!!! I think the worst it would do would maybe bust some ear drums or windows. Besides, we aren't talking Hindenberg quantities of Hydrogen here anyway.

Hahaha, tell that to the Japanesse.....

The same tecnology we used to build hydrogen bombs would be the same thing we would use to power a hydrogen powered car. Just as dangerous....but its still FUSSION

True, H as a gas is no more dangerous thatn Gasoline as a Liquid, but to burn H once it has had modifications to its molecular structure (fussion) if not contained right, you will get a little more than some broken windows and busted ear drums.....

NOw, there is a difference in the H bomb and the hydrogen you would put in your car....an H bomb employs tritium, a fundamentally different form of hydrogen, to replicate the same process by which the sun generates energy. This occurs at astronomical temperatures and pressures where nuclear rather than chemical reactions take place.

But the places you would use to fuel up your car (hydrogen storage tanks) Are EXTREMELY dangerous, and would be more catostrophic if it were to explode. But that is a danger, anyone can fuel hydgrogen for their car, it is more readible than Natural Gas, so people will put lil hydrogen storage tanks in thier backyards....that is where the problem lays. The government would have to control ALL uses of hydgrogen, but this would never work either, cuz all you would have to do is take water and seperate the hydrogen from the O2....and that is where you have your problem.

Its a great fuel source, but people are too stupid....
