Thread: Louisiana Child Rape Law Overturned by US Supreme Court

Looking at it from a purely political science viewpoint I think that erosion of states' rights is the crux of the issue for me. Without having researched it enough to know I can't rightly comment, but I will say that if that is what's happening here then I'm against it. Now if its a matter of constitutionality, then yes the Supreme Court made a decision and they did what they thought was right (never mind the ideological split).

One of the things that's so confounding about the Supreme Court is how they make ruling along strict ideological lines oftentimes. Then 20-30 years down the road when the court is reshuffled the previous precedent can be completely overturned by a shift in the dominant ideology...Sometimes I wonder whether the Supreme Court has too much power. Its one thing for 435 people or even 100 people to be able to make laws or set policy, but 9 people? and for life? I mean the four year term of the President is one thing. You can only do so much damage before you're removed from power and someone else is elected. I wouldn't have such an issue with it if it seemed like the judges voted based on their judicial expertise, but it seems lately they are only concerned with voting along conservative/liberal lines.

As a side note, I'd rather not pay for murderers to sit in a jail cell for the rest of their life. If they get life without parole why am I giving tax dollars for them to continue living a pointless life in a jail cell. Any crime worthy of life without parole (murder) should be given the death penalty. In essence you're really just speeding up the inevitable. The guy is going to die in a jail one way or the other so lets make it quick and save everyone the time and money. They forfeited their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness anyway.

Say, we take Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana and let the whackos have California and the entire North East?

I think its a heck of a plan, personally.

Virginia, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia are all salvageable. Maybe Kentucky, too. I also think we could get some of the Western Frontier States in on that as well. The capitol must be in Texas though.

Just so all of you know, the country is devolving. The Supreme Court of the United States has slowly been destroying this country by taking away the rights of the states and deciding the entire country's position on topics such as abortion, religion, crime and punishment, etc. It is disgusting to me to know that seven people have more influence than the entire rest of the country. And I don't mean that means everything in this country should run as a democracy. And that is because we are a republic. But I do think it is completely wrong when seven unelected officials, who the people have no input whatsoever into their appointment, get to decide the general direction of the entire country.

As for the Southern States of America...we'll take over california violently for the extra beach-space...that and it's where alot of asian imports come into the country :-P
