ugh, so I have to get all four of my wisdom teeth out tomorrow morning, what should I expect?

You will get rice (or other rice sized bits) stuck in the holes and have to rinse your mouth a lot.  It hurts really bad for SOME people and you might look like a chipmunk with cheeks full.

Really, it depends on the depth at which they are and how large or small your jaw is.  If they have to dig way down (I had a live in GF who had hers removed and they were way down) it hurts a lot.

But you will get an antiseptic rinse for your mouth and pain killers.

Alternatively, it might not be bad at all, a big jaw and wisdom teeth that are not buried in the gum come out comparatively easy (but it still hurts, just not as bad as long).


I am 32 and have not had mine removed because my jaw accomodated all my teeth with no crowding.  My dentist recommended leaving them.  I lucked out.


EDIT: And keep your mouth rinsed and moist especially if you smoke. Google "dry socket."

Depends.

You can have them removed when the tooth is already exposed or broken then pulled from inside the gum.

I had this done when I was like 16 and they went in broke up all four inside the gum then pulled the fragments out.

This may sound bad, but I think my case was rare. I went in.. It did not hurt at all during the procedure. I told them to gas me, it was fun.

But the extremely shitty part came afterward. The dentist who pulled them must have fucked up and nailed a nerve, because for the next 2 months, I had loss of feeling in my lower lip. I thought my nerves were permanently damaged. But thankfully, 1 year later I can feel my lower lip again. Not to mention that I followed everything that was recommended, and still managed to get dry socket. It took a good 3-4 months for the hole in my lower gum's to shut, meaning that I would get food stuck in the socket from time to time. I had to get a syringe so I could clean the holes daily. Other wise food rot's in the hole and give you a major case of bad taste and bad breath. I had to do 4 follow up visits to get the dry socket, filled with gauze... It just wouldn't go away. And it was extremely painful. I took all 30 pain killers with in the first 5 days after the surgery. I literally slept for 3 of the days, moving only to piss and drink soup. It sucked severely. On the other hand I've heard that it is not bad for some people at all. I guess it depends on the doctor and if you can follow directions.

Good luck.... Don't smoke after the surgery, I think that's why i got dry socket.

I lucked out during the procedure because 1 minute they were numbing my mouth with the needles and the next thing I remember I was awake with all 4 teeth removed, gauze in my mouth, and big swollen cheeks and lips. Didn't really hurt though because of the meds I had. Just sucked trying to eat anything for awhile. I think I mostly ate stuff like ice cream, pudding, and soups, something you really don't have to chew and can just swallow for the most part. I don't even know what the meds I were on were called, but they worked great for me,

I was thankful though to have it done at the base by a military doctor so I think that was part of the reasons things went so well for me. Plus they could have stayed in there a little while longer, but they recommended I just get them pulled ASAP to avoid any potential problems.

Had mine taken out earlier this summer, really not that bad. They give you some nice pain medication that'll keep you... relaxed.

yeah I'm hoping some percocet will come my way and I won't be in pain


the whole thing kind of works out because my girlfriend and my two best friends are in NC until the 16th

damn son i got 3 in my mouth right now, i feel your pain. Dont wana get em out just yet though!
