And FINALLY the most damning statement of ALL....

Have you read either of his books? My guess is "no."

I haven't read "Dreams of my father", but I have read "The Audacity of Hope."

The quote from that book is taken completely out of context.

Like most quotes, it helps to have the entire paragraph, and the context.

"In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction. "

So he's for defending the rights of American citizens should our government start denying them their civil liberties as citizens. I don't have a problem with that. Do you?

As for your last quote concerning the flag pin, it's completely fabricated.

Salute? You mean when the national anthem is played? Nobody is required to salute. You're supposed to stand at attention.

Btw, does McCain salute?

The Salute should be reserved, IMO, to those who have earned the the right to use it, and to those who understand it's significance. Whether they decide to use should be at their free will, the free will they themselves have fought for..... not for me to decide.
