It could be worse, and by worse, I mean Calculus with functionals as opposed to functions (Functions are dependent on variables while Functionals are dependent on functions, variables, and/or other functionals).
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Happens every day down here at the high school level, and below.

    quantum mechanics

i want to be able to make new chemical compunds and they want to teach me differential equations, physics and bonding theory. ugh. done now though thankfully.

Or when you're an English major and they make you take Calculus. .

The calc requirement of a business degree kicked my ass also - but it's important for you to know why it's there.

    Calc is a filter.

Even people who suck at math can learn calc if they apply themselves and buckle down.

Calc is in the curriculum to weed out all non-hackers and to get the slackers over to the Poli-Sci or Liberal Arts building where they belong.

Calc is a filter - do not get filtered out.

as consultant knows I am an illiterate ass, but hot damn they made me take english and all that on my way to graduation. I draw stuff on a virtual canvas, yet they also made me take a "traditional" illustrating class... pen and ink! I can barely draw a damn stick figure by hand.

yeah, except that doesn't help when you have to learn from a very specific style. i can buckle down all i want and fail if i can't connect with the style. Trust me i got through most of my math classes because i luckily had the same teacher and i could actually learn from her.

wow i just looked at my major (Marketing), at one of my choices for college (University of Arizona) i only have to take Business Math I and Business Math II to get my B.A.

But it's so necessary especially with stuff at the nano level. Molecular mechanics is just too inaccurate. If you're going to be making a new material today, it will likely be a nano-composite.

Be glad you aren't doing research on them. There is jack shit of info about nano-comps since they are so new, so guess how easy it is to get stuff published. :5

Oh, and differential equations, yeah, chemicals are all about path specific equations since guess what many chemical reactions are?

Trust me, you will come back to all of that stuff you thought you already finished with...muahahahahahahaha (evil laugh of the physicist actually designing a new material and doing work figuring out methods to shorten up the process; yay trial and error with week long simulations!).

I was one of the ones filtered out.
