Sig P250 Range Report
I PM'd this to Tick but others might find it interesting as well.
If you don't find it interesting or have a political opinion on firearms, our constitutional right to own then, or our state-affirmed right to carry them, save it for another thread.
Now then...
I picked up the 250 today and put a couple hundred rounds through it and I must say...its fantastic.
I've never filed a "Range report" before, this is my first handgun, but I hope you find the info and opinions below useful. If you have a question I can answer, fire away and I'll do my best.
The trigger pull is INCREDIBLY smooth and even. I'd say mine is around 5 or 5.5 pounds. It ate all types of ammo I fed it from cheap Aluminum-casing blasers to FMJ Brass to hollow points and I had 3 straight magazines in the 9 and 10 ring from 10 yards.
It does NOT have a short-reset trigger and being Double-Action Only means that it requires a full trigger pull every time, but that was more comfortable to me than I expected it to be. I could dump a full magazine (15 rounds) in about 5-6 seconds - faster if I tried I'm sure.
This thing is a beast. I even got comfortable with double-taps within 3 inches of each other by the end of the range time.
I can't wait to get the sub-compact conversion kit for it.
Mine is the 9mm version and the recoil was negligible. Very little muzzle flip compared to the glocks I've shot in the past. I also plan to get a .45 barrel and slide kit for it as well.
I took it apart when I got home from the range, just to tinker with it and give it a quick light cleaning and it was a real snap. I've never owned a handgun before and I've certainly never taken one apart before, but this was incredibly simple. I had it apart in 2 minutes and with practice I'm sure I could get that under a minute.
re-assembly was just as fast.
Con - the only Con I can think of is that it does not come with an extra magazine. Just one. I have a friend who works for Sig (that you might have read about in other threads) and he came through in the clutch and gave me a freebie magazine (value - about $45).
It has factory night-sights that I've already tested in a dark bathroom and they glow like no tomorrow.
I highly recommend it over the Glocks I've shot, and thats not a knock on Glock - the Sig just feels like it was made for my hand. You pay a little more for the Sig but every thing I've seen so far says it's worth it.
I still want to own a Springfield XD-M and a Glock at some point, but I will be expanding my collection of Sigs first and foremost.
I have my eye on a 1911 C3 that looks sexy as hell.
Peace,
Brian

Re: Sig P250 Range Report
Speaking to the point of safety and me never owning a gun before - this morning myself and a few friends took a privately taught concealed weapons permit class this morning that ranged in topics to concealed carry legal basics, situational training, gun safety, shooting techniques and ended with me having about 10 pages of notes to study as well as two excellent books to read.
Florida Firearms Law, Use and Ownership, Jon H. Gutmacher
http://www.floridafirearmslaw.com/mm...Ownership-Info
Be careful if you look on Amazon, the latest (sixth) edition is important.
Gutmacher answers many frequently-asked questions. Where can you carry a gun, when can you lawfully use self-defense, etc.? Our instructor believes this book is essential for anyone owning a firearm in Florida.
In the Gravest Extreme: The Role of the Firearm in Personal Protection, Massad F. Ayoob
http://ayoob.com/cgi-bin/miva?Mercha...gory_Code=AMAB
This is available on Amazon.
Ayoob is The Guru on the judicious use of deadly force. Our instructor believes no one should consider owning a firearm for self-defense unless they read this book.
Great stuff!

Re: Sig P250 Range Report
Seriously though, anybody here ever used one of these biometric gun boxes? I'd like to keep the gun loaded and ready in my closet on the top shelf (just a few feet from my side of the bed) - but I do have kids and while I fully intend them to shoot and learn about guns, I'd like to keep them locked up.
http://www.gunvault.com/
I was looking around there and the thought of swiping my hand on this thing sounds a lot easier than entering a code or turning a dial or finding and inserting and turning a keyed lock.
What do you think?

Remember in highschool? how long did it take you to put in your combo for your locker once you were used to it? what? two seconds?
Yeah, at first, it's a small pain, but after a bit, it's really no problem.

Re: Sig P250 Range Report
Cool! The neat thing alluded to here, but not described is their modularity- I may have to check one of these out, since I'm a tinkerer. My glocks let me tinker, but from what I'm hearing this new sig is *built* for tinkering.
I wonder if you can get different connectors yet that let you adjust the trigger draw length and weight...
