Thread: True or False....Global Warming

There is no denying that over the last few decades the world has experienced a "warming trend."

The real question is "Is man made carbon dioxide emissions responsible for the global warming trend?"

The answer to this question is at best unresolved. However, an unequivocal yes can be volunteered if you ignore fact. To date, there is no scientific evidence that says man made carbon dioxide emissions are the cause for the warming trend. At worst, you get papers that say "probably" or "highly likely" substantiated with computer modeling that must repeatedly be corrected to account for erroneous predictions and a final "well, can we afford not to do anything?"

Being a good steward of our environment is essential, regardless of whether or not you do it because it is your moral obligation, your passion, or because it simply makes sense. The fundamental idea that we should strive to protect our environment and ensure a sustainable lifestyle is only harmed and corrupted by people with fanciful dreams of making money off of carbon credits.

Science is corrupted whenever it crosses paths with politics. I really don't know anything that can withstand the disease carrying vermin known as politics.

As for carbon dioxide and water ... when CO2 dissolves in water it forms carbonic acid ... the more CO2 in water the more carbonic acid ... the more carbonic acid, the more carbonate in water. I will look up this paper and see what Freely was actually talking about. It does make sense that water becomes acidified with increased CO2 concentration (in the water ... as described in my text above). It also makes sense that calcified shells would dissolve more at lower pH (this is what acid will do). It doesn't make a whole lot sense to say that increased CO2 in water decreases the presensence of carbonate. But again, I'll see if I can get more details from the article. This said, this is unrelated to the idea of global warming.

Yes, we do emit a shit ton of crap into the air but the world is not going to end tomorrow. Lets all help become a little more greener but there is no reason to freak out.

imo i think this is a "time will tell" sorta thing. i doubt the worlds gonna end anytime soon, and i think if global warming is really happening then it remains to be seen whether or not it really will be as destructive as it's made out to be

My opinion in a nutshell: I believe that there is a problem. Maybe not quite as serious as some are saying, but it is still an issue. I think we need to cut our dependency on fossil fuels and develop more efficient energy systems. Even if global warming isn't true, the depleting petroleum supply is true. We need to find cleaner ways to live.
