As far as the stimulus goes, most people don't really understand what lies at the heart of the problem. It's not about getting money to buy more crap we don't need. It's about re-instilling confidence again. Banks won't lend and businesses are cutting back b/c of a gloomy outlook. Some seem to think that the government is printing more money and that is simply not true. The government is borrowing for this through treasury auctions. There is a world of difference between the two.

And bryn0202 I will take any and every opportunity to shit on Bush, even if it's not topic related.

Re-instilling confidence is exactly the point I am trying to make. I could care less about buying a big-screen TV, but until I (and then multiply that by X million consumers) have the confidence in the economy, we're in a little bit of a catch 22. I know its simplistic, but maybe if enough people had the confidence to buy those big screen TVs, Circuit City could have worked through its bankruptcy plan.

As for treasury auctions. Whats the current interest rate on a T-bill (check out http://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/H15/data.htm

10 yr - 2.8%
20 yr - 3.8%
30 yr - 3.5%

So let me take my $10k, invest it in T-bills, earn a pitiful return for the next 10 years and then in 10 years time, I'll pay the $10k in taxes so the government has the money to honour the redemption of the debt. - makes sense to me.

I'd rather have the confidence to invest that money in a VC that has the confidence to invest in that new start up, that has the confidence to employ those unemployed that come up with some innovative technology.

As for bashing Bush - go ahead, it just gets a bit old.

That is my biggest fear about the American people at the moment. The fact that if Obama totally botches things up, his supporters will act like he's done the greatest thing ever. You're right when you say American people, because that's who voted for Obama. The majority. We voted for him because we do care what happens to this country unlike people like you who vote for someone like Bush despite how far he brings this country down. As long he speaks like me, goes to church like me and pronounces Iraq the wrong way like me, then his incompetency is irrelevant. Jesus, you numb nuts wanted to vote for Palin. Genius at work.

My point was, Obama could take the "exact" same course of action that bush did, and all you bush bashers would swear up and down that Obama is doing great things....stop bashing Bush because he is Bush, and stop worshipping Obama, simply because he is Obama. In a majority of liberal eyes, no matter what, Obama's actions will be praised. He could sell this country to Iran, and you guys would cheer and talk about how great of a president he is. Bush runs the 1st stimulus bill (with the help of Obama) and he is deemed a tard (I didnt agree with the 1st bill, fyi). Now Obama wants to piss out a bigger bailout, and all is well with a lot of people....stop loving the person based soley on the fact that he is from your party.

And btw, I didn't care much for McCain/Palin, but I sure as hell didnt want Hussein Obama in office.
