Camping: North East Campgrounds

Hey guys!

My Girlfriend and I are making plans for our summer. We love camping and are looking for helpful tips and ideas please! keep this on topic.

We are looking to go camping in the north east* in a Tent. We are ok w/o electric but prefer to have water at site. We like wooded sites not too open. With different attractions** nearby.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Links if possible, if not maybe a phone number to contact them for more information.

* North East: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey

** Attractions nearby: A 30 minute drive from where we are staying, (E.g. Vermont Teddy bear factory, Ben and Jerries Factory, Fort Ticondaroga, Hershey Park, Mt Washington)

We have some nice sites in Northern NJ, with some nice near by attractions. But if your dead set on your definition of the NE, I am out of ideas. Try southern Maine. I was there for vacation about a year ago and it wasnt too bad.

Well if thats the case, we got various campgrounds by the Delaware where you can go to various museums about the crossing of the Delaware near Trenton.

I know of a camp that I am a staff member at (its a Boy Scout Camp). Its roughly 45 minutes or less to NY by car. I know its bit farther than what you would like, but its NYC. There is SO much to do in NYC. If you do end up going to NYC let me know and we can meet up. Its right accross the street from Waterloo village but it closed recently. There are still events there, but I dont know the exact status of it.

If your still interested in NJ let me know and I will do some search for attractions with camp grounds.

Do you need additional input on what you need to bring with you tent camping? Or are you good on that regard?

If you check out Mt. washington let me know, I'm a cook at the nearby ski area, although I'm guessing you aren't coming in the winter. There's a pretty cool canopy tour (Basically a huge zip line) that we do year round at Breton Woods.

If you know of more places in Jersey let us know. The BSA camp ground allows for outsiders to come for a weekend sort of thing? the only camps I've been to were troops only sort of thing.

I'm good with camping tips, former Boy Scout (didn't get far Troop politics prevented my board of reviews

)and life time camper. but if you have more let me know, maybe it is something new.

Well, we are looking for summer camping trips but if you work at Breton what sort of things have you got going on in like 3 weeks? Our Spring Break is March Fri 13th - Sun 22nd. Any sort of "events" going on then?

Well the mountain should still be open and we have terrain for all levels as well as a great learn to ski/ride program.

I think there will still be sled dogs and ski jouring (sled dog+xcountry skis) at the hotel, depends on how the snow holds up.

Also the canopy tour I mentioned and cros country skiing

Yeah we have random groups come in all the time. Hell we have LARPers come in all the time. We just got to make sure that there isnt anything going on that weekend. Its a big camp so I am sure there is room for the two of you. I will try to find some more places for you in Jersey.

For the record, its called Mount Allemuchy Scout Reservation. Real beautiful area during the summer. Don't know what it looks like mid to late March though. Wouldn't recommend swimming in it during that time frame though.

Going to have to think over it some in terms of other locals though.
