Re: IPhone yay or nay?
I like mine, but Apple could have done a better job. It still uses EDGE technology for it's web browser, which is about as twice as fast as dial-up. It can sometimes drop calls before you place them, and the iPod function gets a bit screwy over long periods of play. The interface is really all it has going for it.

Re: IPhone yay or nay?
My wife likes hers but I know there are a few things she wished it did different. If I get a chance I will get her to give me a list.
I know she has hers set up to manage and monitor her servers etc.
I like the games and aps that it has and frequently play with it when she will let me.

Um the iPhone 3g uses the 3g Network for everything. So I don't know where you get Safari only uses Edge.
I love mine. the 3.0 update is coming out soon. And I can't wait to see what is actually in it. The big thing is that, as of right now, it doesn't have MMS, video, or copy and paste. But everyone is begging for these.

I think you mean it doesn't have flash... not video. Obviously it does have video. I have the last indiana jones movie sitting on my 16Gig 3G right now.
I love it. Best phone I've ever owned and I've had a few other high end phones. Plays games as good as any dedicated game hand held... productivity apps... video... camera is passable (oh that's probably what you meant... camera doesn't do video!)... It's just as easy to get on the web as my laptop most of the time. IPOD functionality... It basically does everything I could want a handheld unit to do.
The ONLY phones that I am eyeballing that come close are the google phones. And frankly the phones themselves kind of bite style-wise. But the android OS and dev stuff make me drool just a tiny bit.

Re: IPhone yay or nay?
I'm going on 2+ years of owning an Iphone. No other phone has come close to out doing it imo. The system and platform is just untouchable imo.
The at&t plans are more expensive compared to my old sprint plan. As far as instant dropped calls, that happens when the number you are calling in busy. I'm actually gonna upgrade to a new one since it's about that time every year. I'm just a little weiry about how the 3g plastic backing is gonna hold up with me. My last 2 looking like they were used for hockey pucks. But damn did they hold up like champs!
The clarity on the on the speaker phone is rediculously clear. I remember calling Vafa one time and i put it on speaker and his wig got split on how clear everything sounded. It was pretty funny how he re-acted. Drunk Vafa= Good times

Re: IPhone yay or nay?
The app store is a huge edge for the Iphone. I just replaced my blackberry pearl with an Iphone 3G, heres my take from a mostly work phone perspective.
Pros
App store - Insane amount of useful stuff in here.
Interface - simple stuff, but its noticeable, like menu options fitting the task youre doing vs an all or nothing menu with a blackberry. Multitouch makes complicated tasks pretty easy.
Visual voicemail
Integration between apps - GPS tying into just about everything makes this a very good road tool.
Cons
Mail - More cumbersome than a blackberry (seperate inboxes), and cant Imap webmail accounts like a blackberry. Im working with a friend to try to write an email app that will combine inboxes like the blackberry had, its noticeably missing when you have multiple accounts to juggle. Having to use the safari interface for webmail blows.
Lack of Flash - hurts on some websites
battery life is meh if you burn through a lot of 3G data during the day (surfing, downloads, etc).
There are apps that do cut and paste, but its not inherent in the core functionality of the Iphone, which sucks. I cant see Apple ignoring this for too much longer, Im sure they are just trying to find the perfect multitouch way to do it vs having a sub menu or button come up. Unless you do a serious amount of email on your phone or juggle a bunch of different accounts right now its an upgrade over a blackberry just for the app store alone. Android phones supposedly have horrible battery life, buyer beware...
