Re: Racquetball
I used to play a lot. I recommend a glove, if you dont already wear one. Really sures up the grip...also, a couple sweat bands around the wrists to keep as much sweat from dripping down to your palms as possible.
Same for your head...sweat band up there will help keep your face dry.
have you been nailed yet? If not, save yourself the trouble and get a pair of goggles or glasses for them. No sense in going blind!
Its a ton of fun!!!

Re: Racquetball
I used to play with my dad, brother and brother-in-law. 4 players is fun. It is a very good workout. I just wish there was a place close that I could play for not a lot of $. I got hit several times and ran into the wall a few times. It can be a tricky game to get down, last time I played I was doing pretty good, I would probably suck trying to play now.

Re: Racquetball
Just started playing again a few weeks ago. Great workout. The hard pace plus the fact that youre basically in a natural sauna will burn more calories for 30 minutes than you would running on a treadmill for an hour. I would definitely recommend a glove for the sheer fact of preventing blisters on your hand. I just got pegged last week. Point blank heater right in the fn nose. Thankfully it wasnt an inch or two to either side or my LASIK wouldve been in the crapper...

Re: Racquetball
Its good for your body in the long run, sometimes a bit painful in the short run but always fun =). When I play, I usually bring a mouth guard; was thinking of bringing a cup and protective goggles as well. Running into the wall is the funnest part of the game :4

Re: Racquetball
Racquetball, my most favorite sport in the World.... wish you were here in Dallas, then we could play.
I used to play religiously for many years, was A-/B+ player.
Advise:
1. Stay off of Walls; try and keep the center of the room at all times. When you find yourself up against the wall, bounce off of it back towards the center.
2. Never rush your shot; let the Ball come to you. You're in a confined rectangular box; no matter where the ball goes, it's always going to come back your way.
3. NEVER play without eye protection... NEVER!
4. The power of your shot is going to come from your wrist. Use your wrist in the twisting of the racket, more than your shoulder. In Tennis; it's all about the Shoulder. In Racquetball; it's all about the wrist.
5. Always take a shot with two feet firmly planted on the ground; try to not a take a shot while off balance. Once you get good, you'll b able to mentally plant both feet (if only for a second), without even thinking about it.
6. You got to anticipate your opponents shot. An A player can bury the ball so close to the floorline at the wall, that it literally will not bounce back for you to take a shot. So.... you've got to anticipate his shot, by knowing the lines that are available to him, forcing him to take one line over another, and then moving in after the shot to return fire.
7. Do it well, or don't f|u|cking do it at all!
Enjoy!

Re: Racquetball
I played against a 60 year old A player and let me tell you...it was simply not fun, for either of us. He stood in the middle of the court, flipped his wrist like he was playing ping pong and I ran all over the court like an idiot looking for his lost contact lens.
I think our longest volley was 5 shots, to which he said "nice rally"
I apologized for being terrible and he laughed it off and said "Keep practicing".
I figure, I have 30 years to get as good as him!
