Thread: You forget to defrag for 4 months....

I started a defrag this morning before I headed out for school and I got home 8 hours later and it is STILL defragging, and Vista doesn't even give me a percentage or a progress bar on the stupid thing, pisses me off.

Is there some secret to Disk Defragmenter that I don't know to get it to work right?

Well, whenever the thing finally gets done... you could always go back to the defragmenter, and set it to a regular schedule, say Vista default at 1:00 AM every Wednesday (Or at least that's my default).

Otherwise, just let it defragment. 4 months is incredibly long to let a hard drive go without defragmenting. Unless you have a Solid State Drive of course.

It's honestly easier to use a 3rd party program with Vista or to use the command prompt.

To see stats:
defrag c: -a -v
to defrag
defrag -c -v

Yeah, I use PerfectDisk. It defrags whenever my screensaver on my PC enables. All 3 of my drives are less than 1% fragmented pretty much all the time.

in the Run command from the Start menu, then when it's complete the prompt will close itself!
