Re: Should the U.S end its embargo on Cuba?
Yes, of course we should...and it will be a perfect example of how to create a democracy without spilling a drop of blood.
If we do this, Cuba will be having free elections within five years, mark my words.
The embargos have done nothing but hurt the Cuban people by depriving them of essential imports and denying them a higher standard of living from the income of their valuable exports. They have done nothing to hurt Fidel or his regime. They have actually empowered him.
And BTW, the catalyst for their desire of nuclear missiles was a strictly defensive reaction to the fact that we were threatening an invasion to topple their government.
You want to promote democracy? Then bequeath every sovereign country's right; the freedom to decide what type of government they want. If it doesn't work out for them, they will inevitably become democratic.

I see my buddy kraker, the one from flight 909 the plane that was in a nose dive on fire and he somehow laneded it safely... has chimed in with a loving comment.
Being raised in a Cuban family I am sure some of you will vote against it in spite of me.
Whats nice about this thread is the ones who say fuck that lift it when he is dead really dont have a good arguement to keep the ban in place.
Of course most of you ultra right wing yuppies cant stand Castro because why now?
He is the last of the old school world leaders to outright defy the U.S. and was never thrown from power.
Thats right bitches.
He has seen many U.S. presidents come and go while he trades with the rest of the world. Now how about those living conditions on the island. They are crap and most people live in what we would consider ghetto conditions but 90% of the island is in good health.
You see how old those mofo's stick around and age to the ripe ages of 90's?
The restrictions that were just lifted in my eyes is a good start and progress. You dont want to lift all bans and have a free-for-all because we dont know the full spectrum of what will happen.
I just recently found my fathers birth certificate from Cuba(he is deceased). I plan one day in the future to go back and see where he grew up and what part of town and track down any family there might be left.
My parents left Cuba in the 50's when Castro was taking over and they traveled by steam boat to Miami. Stayed there two years then moved to New York City. Then my father was offered a job in Houston with his company when I was 1yo then we moved down to Texas.
If they lifted all bans the island would become a resort for Americans. Mcdonalds, Hilton, and Disney would be some of the few ready to expand.
What bad could come of it?
Terrorist's?
If they wanted to they come in already under the radar instead of the legal way on paper.
You would see a rise however in the cigar market and vintage car.
Yes thats right I said vintage cars. If you do some research Cuba has damn near nothing but cars from the 40's,50's,60's which have many parts collectors have not been able to find in the U.S.
Now that familes back home can send money to cuba I am sure some living conditions will liven up a bit.

Hmm, I'm not sure what we should do as all the Cubans I have known have said they hate Castro. Also Jason why would your Father and mom leave Cuba? Have you ever asked? Not that it is any of my business but there must be a good reason.
Castro is a Murderer and commie pinko but we lifted the embargo on Libya why not Cuba?
also why should we send money to anyone? I think we need to cut foreign aid across the board unless it is strategically needed, and we do not need Cuba. So lift the embargo if he promises in public to play nice this way we do not lose face but if he refuses then screw him.

Yes, they did it the legal way papers and all. My parents did not meetup until New York City in 68' but their paths to the U.S. were almost identical.

Does cuba have enough money to where it will stimulate our economy by them buying goods from us? We will help our own economy from buying "cigars" and antique car parts from cuba?
This is a concern. Because i remember what happend when Mr. Clinton Signed NAFTA.....
