Arlan Specter, now a member of the democratic party.

    Times are a changin'

Along with 200,000 other republicans in Pennsylvania, it appears Arlan Specter has gone over to the Democratic party. Here is his statement about it:

Better then simply endorsing gay marriage or saving a tree.

Plus he help push the bailout through and probably got shunned by his own political party.

He can say whatever he wants to say... but the fact is he was scared of losing the Republican primary to the same guy who almost defeated him last time his seat was up for re-election. He went over to the Democrats to save his political life.

If you're in politics, you're never on the light side. The reality of politics is too dark.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

    Constituents:
Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats.
    Specter:
I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans. I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary.

Exactly. People in power wanting to stay in power is what this is about, meanwhile this takes away from time better spent making the US a better place for the people actually paying for them to sit in said power.

And that is inherintly politically-philosophical as well. His operations and beliefs are no longer in standing with the republican party...but at one time they were. I think that his exodus (among others) demonstrates a change in the republican party. When I was 18 I registered republican due to some of my beliefs about federal vs. state government and a strong military posture. I switched after I relaized that the republican party has adopted a stance that is increasingly bent on moral values and religion over economics and politics.

I switched as well, but I feel the Democrats are just as bad. I ended up switching my affiliation to Libertarian.

    http://www.lp.org/

Being the son of a Woodstock attendee I like their stance on personal freedoms and the environment, while the Marine part of me likes their stance on foreign policy and crime.

The main reason I switched was a lot of disgust on how many republicans openly went after the Muslims living here in the US (still are) and also the way they suck up to the Christian Right whenever possible, to ensure that they remain in office. This last election showed me that they will continue down this path and continue to stay stagnant in social views.

I did not switch to Democrats because I believe they are the same, but on the opposite side of the coin. Being to Politically Correct for their own good gets nothing accomplished, for when you tread on eggshells you walk a lot slower. Their large federal government programs are also against my views as I feel power that is more localized can adapt to the changes in life in the US more than appeasing the masses across such a large country.

Either way, in my view Spectre is just crossing the hall, but remaining in power and playing the political 'game'. Hopefully this doesn't work for him and folks in his area will not be fooled by such obvious moves to remain in power.

You act as if he isn't going to run against the same guy in the general election. Which he will, and from the looks of the trend...... Spectre will win by a loooooong shot.
