Anyone in the Air Force? Or a paid Firefighter?
So basically two roads I want to go down: Either a PJ in the Air Force or a paid Firefighter.
Being a PJ has always appealed to me. The thought of going into hostile territory to save a downed pilot or crewman or who ever has always been one of those "fuck yeah" things I want to do.
Then along came firefighting. I joined my local fire company last year and so far it has been a blast. I know I have to get all my fire training done but I'm not sure what else I could look at doing.
So I guess I want to know what I need to do for both sides. What college if any I should go to? What should I study? Whats it like to be either? And any other info you could give me would be awesome.
Thanks!

You should also take a good look at the Coast Guard. A good friend of mine (actually I know a couple of people that were in) was a rescue diver. He was first stationed in South Florida...not bad....he then was up in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. CG needs firefighters too....no different than the Navy. Both of my friends absolutely loved the CG....one of them actually ended up staying in for 12 years.

I've been thinking alot about the Air Force too AK. I also thought being a PJ would be cool, but I want to be a cop, so imma probably do the Security Officer (aka MP) or be a Door Gunner. Both of those just seem like my kind of thing. I'd even make a vid of me saying TF2 heavy things while firing my MMG on the choppa, just for y'all :9
Who knows AK, maybe i'll give your fat ass a lift? Or arrest you. Whatever's easier for you.

Re: Anyone in the Air Force? Or a paid Firefighter?
I'm headed into the Air Force about a year from now. I'm going in through ROTC as an Aerospace engineering major (Most likely) and hope to be a pilot once in (Thankfully I was blessed with excellent eye site and a high tolerance to G forces). Firefighting is cool and all but there's something about seeing the world and fighting for my country that really appeals to me, and if I can do it all from the sky even better. (Also I would be going from a Jet Whore in BF2 to one IRL)
The thing to know about the air force is its a little bit backwards compared to the other services, the officers in the air force (At least pilot wise) do the fighting while the enlisted sit on the runway waiting for the plane to come back. (And as a friend of mine told me "Its the ground crews plane so don't go out there and fuck it up")

Sup AK - I was in the Air Force as an MP for one enlistment (4 years) and got out as a Staff Sergeant. If you want to be a PJ, good for you man, but beware it is about a 96% wash out rate. Not saying you can't hack it, just saying be prepared physically and mentally and be damn careful not to get hurt or you will end up in medical flight or eliminated from the program altogether. You know, the Air Force has firefighters too. Why not go in guaranteed firefighter? After you serve for a while as a firefighter if you still have that itching to go Pararescue then go for it at that time. You don't have to go into PJ school directly from the get go, you can apply and try out at any time.
