    Re: Alice in Chains

They were far ahead of their time. The long painful story of Layne Staley's self destruction with Heroin should be a case study in why drugs are stupid. Unfortunately, Layne's story is an eclipse over 3 other very talented guys.

Their music is top shelf, I have listened to it within the past 2 days. How many years has it been since they fell apart?

Believe it or not they actually have a new singer and are trying to write more music. I'm sorry but the new guy is shit compared to Staley. He had an awesome voice, top notch.

btw if you first timers are looking to buy a record from the band buy "Dirt"

Yea Alice in Chains are one of my favorite bands of the 90's and I heard from a few people that the new singer isn't that bad with the band, but of course you can't beat the original sound. In my opinion the early 90's was the best time for the alternative scene and it's not like today when almost everything sounds alike.

Jar of flies was one of the best albums of all time and it only had 7 songs on it. I can remember playing it so loud on my system that I could cause the picture on my 36" sony wega XBR to shrink on the base notes. I am not much of a rock or alternative music type of guy but Alice in Chains was a great band.

Alice in Chains was an excellent band. Just one more example I point to when I say all the best music came from the 80's and 90's, and today's music is shit.

Same thing my dad said in the 80's-90's except he said the music from the 60's-70's. Music just evolves. Some for the better some (most ) for the worse. I now find myself listening to music I missed from the past. More than I can even listen to.

    Re: Alice in Chains

New singer? I hope they aren't touring under the name Alice in Chains. That would be like the surviving members of the Grateful Dead touring as the Grateful Dead with Jerry or the Doors touring as The Doors without Jim. Silliness

Alice in Chain's most underrated songs come off the Sap ep. God I love Chris Cornell backing Layne on "Right Turn"
