If you are getting it for home defense, either works - but I would consider a Mossberg 500 Tactical before a full sized hunting version of the 835.
Will this gun be taken to the shooting clay's range, the duck blind, or both? or will it lean in the closet waiting for a bad guy to make your day with the occasional trip to the range?

Re: New toy
we got a mossberg 500 tactical marine....basically, everything in it, and I mean EVERYTHING IN IT is covered in nickel so it's rust and corrosion PROOF!
it's called the marine cause it's made to sit on a boat in salt water conditions for years at a time, forgotten about until you need to pull it out and rely on it to shoot.
We only got it cause my uncle got a newer/better one and sold this one to my dad.....it's been sitting under my dad's bed since.
I'm more worried about the shells in it degrading past usable-status before the gun wouldn't shoot them.....
