2 year old girl drowns in pond.

So this is how my day started at work today. EMS radio "2 year old female in full cardiac arrest. CPR in progress. Pt found in pond. Bystanders failed to initiate CPR. Unable to locate parents." This scenario happens way too often. I have worked in a pediatric ER for six years and have taken care of 8 children who have drowned or have suffered permanent brain damage from near drownings. If you have a pool or live near a pond please make sure you have a fence with a lock. It turns out mom fell asleep this am and her two little girls ventured down to the pond. In one way I find it very sad but at the same time I am fucking pissed. These situations are totally preventable. Protect your kids! And another thing take a fucking CPR class. Sorry just had to vent.

I have a tall fence with gates that have secure latches.

Always sad and frustrating to hear about things like this.

Don't be sorry for venting. I have heard stories like those are the worst parts about being a paramedic. Better to let it out then to hold it inside you.

Sad thing is it takes something like this to happen before she takes action . Now she will be more aware of her other child.

this happened to a cousin of mine who recently passed in the last year in his 30s.

When he was very young he used to sleepwalk and leave the house. My uncle followed him every night to make sure he was safe but one day something happened and he fell in a lake and by the time he was pulled out he had severe brain damage.

This was in Argentina in the middle of nowhere (3rd world hick as i said in earlier threads)
