But to answer the question, no, there is no sound. There are waves from collision, but unless there is a sound detecting organ receiving the waves, it is not a sound, it is just a wave.

The vibration is called a sound wave for crist sake. So yes there is a sound just because your out of range of the sound wave doesn't mean it didn't exisist. As for the link it was removed probably because someone figured out it was incorrect.

I believe that the tree will make noise anyway because it is going to hit the ground hard and go *thump*.

Sounds waves are noise so I don't really think you can say Sound waves have no sound.

tell ya what... go setup a motion active video camera in some woods and whenever that tree falls come back and tell us what happened...

Thats just stupid we're talking about sound not movement. So in turn I tell you go set up a microphone and when the tree falls you tell me if it makes a noise.
