I had a friend back in 98' who owned a 300zx, looked just like that but red. We hit the highway one night and hit about 150mph, I nearly shat my pants. I never want to do that again due to the fact the car started shaking at 145mph.

If this is a car just for you, then go for it and fix it up.

    Twin turbo kicks ass.

Alright, I'll fess up...I have never driven a manual transmission before, hence why I wanted this car.

I watched a video of some rich kid with an Audi give a shifting tutorial...I understand the basics of it, but from the looks of it...he left off the gas, pressed the clutch, shifted, let go of the clutch, then accelerated. He didn't press the gas and let go of the clutch at the same time...is that what you have to do when going from neutral into 1st gear?

And when it comes to stopping. You just shift into neutral and press the brake, then when you go start the cycle again?

    Here is the video.

Um... you should pass on this deal. That car looks like it was abused pretty bad. The interior is fucked, the exterior is in okay shape (nice ding on the back bumper), high mileage, and as other have mentioned, the modified exhaust does not give a good impression of the previous owner.

For $3500, you could probably find a much more reliable car... maybe not as fast, but speed isnt everything.

Yes to get it moving in first you need to give gas and then ease off the clutch. Once your moving you don't need to worry about how much gas your giving it when you shift. When you race you never let off the gas much at all if any. The car and power will be the determing factor.

It's a little more complaex when your on a hill and need to start moving. You have to balance the amount of gas with the right amount of clutch so you don't roll backwards and hit someone. Sounds harder than it really is. You'll be fine practice in a mall parking lot or something of that nature.

On another note 3500 is to much for this car but thats your call not mine.

    The correct answer is: Practice.

Especially with a smaller motor, you're going to need to give it gas when you start moving. Your turbos won't kick in until probably somewhere above 2000 rpm, which means you have very little power to get rolling. I've had my GTI for two years, and I still manage to not give it enough gas and have it shudder more often than I'd care to admit. Especially with the AC running. Damned compressor is as big as the motor.

Right now I'm looking at a 68 tbird. Not a big fan of the body style but it does have an original 428 in it.
Yeah, definitely have a mechanic go with you. Used car lots will see you a boat anchor if you're not careful. Also, let someone who knows how to drive a stick take it around the block. You won't know what a bad clutch feels like, but they might. I learned that from experience: Bought a 2000 New beetle turbo off a used lot, didn't even get 5 miles before I tried to downshift and the clutch came apart. Called the sales guy and they came and got it and put a new clutch and flywheel in it. They were fairly reputable, and I knew the owner, but if you get to the wrong dealer, caveat emptor (buyer beware). After the fact, when I learned what a slipping clutch was, I remembered what it felt like on the test drive, cried foul then, and saved myself a bit of grief.
