Mr Griffin arrived for the press conference on College Green in front of Parliament with fellow newly-elected BNP MEP Andrew Brons just after 2.30pm on Tuesday. He had only been speaking for a few minutes when the protesters appeared, chanting and waving banners declaring: "Stop the fascist BNP."

Eggs were thrown at Mr Griffin and his tough-looking bodyguards bundled him away through the crowd. The demonstrators kicked and hit his car with their placards before cheering as he drove off.

Mr Griffin alleged the three main political parties were trying to prevent the BNP getting its message across by colluding with protesters, who he said were mainly left-wing students.

"It's a very, very sad day for British democracy," he said. "People should be entitled to hear what we have to say and to hear journalists question us robustly."

Mr Griffin said he was only splashed with egg but a TV cameraman had been hit full in the face. He described the protesters as an "organised mob that's backed by all three main parties to stop us getting our message across to the public".

Protest organiser Weyman Bennett, national secretary of Unite Against Fascism, said: "The majority of people did not vote for the BNP, they did not vote at all. The BNP was able to dupe them into saying that they had an answer to people's problems.

"They presented themselves as a mainstream party. The reality was because the turnout was so low, they actually got elected."

By the way to clarify since the article doesn't point it out but the BNP is the British Nationalist Party, Which from what i've heard is a far right party who is strongly against immigration.

According to its constitution, the BNP is "committed to stemming and reversing the tide of non-white immigration and to restoring, by legal changes, negotiation and consent the overwhelmingly white makeup of the British population that existed in Britain prior to 1948".

Founder John Tyndall proclaimed that "Mein Kampf is my bible". When Nick Griffin became chairman in 1999, the party began to change its stance with regard to racial issues. Griffin claims to have repudiated racism, instead espousing what he calls "ethno-nationalism". Suggested policies to help police this "threat to all of us" include a Muslim no-fly policy, which would ban Muslims from flying in and out of the UK.

Mark Collett, former chairman of the Young BNP, described homosexuals as "AIDS Monkeys", "bum bandits" and "faggots" and said the idea of homosexuality was a "sickening thought".

But, amid clear signs of disarray in the BNP, it was not clear whether Mr Eriksen had been sacked as the party's chief London organiser, and other senior figures rallied round him.

BNP deputy leader Simon Darby claimed the accusations were a 'smear' and that Mr Eriksen's remarks had been taken 'completely out of context'.

Immigration is a very sensitive issue in Europe. Many natural citizens are bothered by the lack of assimilation on the part of mostly Muslim people. It's not really about race for the sake of skin color. The problem is that many of those looking to immigrate just aren't interested in 'fitting in'

everything i've read about the BNP says it is about skin color and religion (They've even been quoted as saying the only reason they are anti-muslim is people will vote for them if they are, they still hate jews).
