Re: AIG
"A spokesman for US Airways, Morgan Durrant, said the airline issued each passenger a check for $5,000 shortly after the accident to cover their immediate needs; it had no legal obligation to do so. He declined to discuss the airline's liability insurance policy or claims processes, saying the matter was pending and he did not want to jeopardize it."
"Because he could document losses of more than $5,000, A.I.G. sent him a second $5,000, with a letter saying he could get an additional $10,000 if he signed a statement releasing it from any further claims. Other passengers are also being asked to sign the release in exchange for $10,000."
Looks like they are trying to end the ordeal. I am not sure how their Insurance policy reads, however I bet this hits the light now for other passengers traveling with personal belongings and enlightens them about possible incidents that may happen.

Re: AIG
The bird strike is an act of god right? Like weather or any other natural occurring incident. The pilot stepping in and performed the first ditching landing of its kind (no fatalities), saving their lives. How could there possibly be any liability.
Looks like the airline is ponying up 1.5 million.
The folks involved should be thanking the airlines for the quality pilot who saved their lives.
