you're in Stage 2 Water Restrictions and...

...you still see ass holes watering with their sprinkler system at noon.

And wouldn't you know it? The SAWS people are having "technical difficulties" and we can't get a hold of anyone to report this.

    So sad...

That's like the two churches up the street from us... they left their sprinkler systems on after the first freeze. We ended up having a solid sheet of ice on one of the two lanes of south bound traffic. I left two messages with our Water & Public Utility people... no response. Finally I called the non-emergency number for the city police and reported it as a hazard. A road crew was out there within the hour salting the 2+ block patch of ice.

At least that is something you could fix. Not much we can do about people wasting water though besides report them and hope they can at least issue a fine or something. :3

Sucks either way though doesn't it?

What does "stage 2 water restriction" mean? I assume you can only water on certain days in the evenings, right? If so, that's pretty lame... It annoys me when people water during the day either way. What a waste.

I always thought Texas had an abundance of water though. Doesn't the humidity come from a swampy environment?

Yeah. I love my sprinkler system, but I also spend quite a bit of time in care and feeding to ensure that sprinkler heads are all in working order and that my schedule is during the optimal watering times. Most folks can't be bothered. I report businesses and residences that water during the 10am - 6pm time period that is verboten when under watering restrictions. Never seems to do any good, but at least I feel a little better.

Go find their curb stop water valve and shut off the entire house's water.

But you'd need one of those special long handled wrenchs that the utility workers have...

    Hmmm....

Central texas has been in a drought for a while. Family friends own a house on Lake Travis in Austin... and it's completely bone dry by their house. They normally have a boat anchored on their dock... now they trailer it and have to go to one of the few boat ramps still open.

It's a myth that Texas is humid. Along the coast, yes. Elsewhere... notsomuch. 'humid' in Dallas is anything over 50% humdity. Growing up in the mid-atlantic in a house with no A/C during the summer... I would have killed for 50% humidity. Days of 90 degree heat and 90% humidity were the norm.

Most sprinkler systems (that I've seen) have their own valve that's independant of the house water supply. Those don't generally need a special wrench. I shut mine off every year and bleed the system before winter.

Go and pull their electric meter. That will fix their little wagon.

I'm not usually a big fan of sprinkler bans....they have them here, but about 90% of the time they are bs. However....watering in the middle of the day is about the dumbest thing you can do....evaporation? They could have just as easily set it up to run in the middle of the night to at least get the most efficient use of the water. If the drought is that bad down there...they shouldn't be watering at all.

For us, Stage 2 means you can only water your lawn on certain days (designated by your street number) and only between certain hours. It is something like 10pm-8am and I think they try to restrict you from using a sprinkler system since they tend to waste more water.

And Wile is right. We are dry. It can get "humid" according to the weather people, but we're really dry as fuck right now. And Texas is so huge, different parts experience different degrees of humidity and droughts.

And stage 2 for us is having our aquifer below 650ft now, stage one starts are 660 ft. Stage 3 hits at 640 which some officials are saying we might reach this year...:3
