They did not ban the burka. It's being discussed right now. Read the article.

Bah I never thought I would say this...

an admission that the country's long-held principle of ethnic assimilation — which insists that newcomers shed their traditions and adapt to French culture
the USA should do the same thing as the french (on this one subject).

You want to live here? Then embrace all things that are "here". Love it or leave it.

"The burqa is not a religious sign, it's a sign of subservience, a sign of debasement — I want to say it solemnly," he said.

He's wrong you know, the burqa is not a religious practice, it's a cultural practice. This is idiotic and those arguing to ban it should go back to school.

Which would be a load of bullshit. The US is made up of many different cultures with culturall and religious freedoms and that is what makes it great. Would we force nuns to not wear habits? Should the Amish and Mennonites be forced to wear 'modern' clothing? As long as the Muslim women have the freedom to leave their husbands and take off the Burqa they should be able to. If they marry a man who wants them to wear it then that is their choice as well here in the US.

This is just an excuse to try and westernize the Muslim culture, as long as they don't break the laws of the US while living here I have no problems with them.

It is less that and more I am sick and tired of people coming here and trying to change the US into the crap hole they left from to come here. Sick of people feeling the need to tell me the heritage their great great grandfather was. I don't care if your ancestors were Irish because before that they were X and before that they were Y... I was born here as where my parents and their parents and theirs and theirs I am not Anglo-Saxon/Germanic/Norman. I am an American, WTF else matters?
