Just Wait ! We haven't seen the real bad stuff yet either. The residential real estate market bubble bursting was Nothing compared to when the Commercial Real Estate market bubble bursts ! All you need to do is look around your own neighborhood and see how many businesses have closed in strip malls............ The owners of those malls will be on the hook with no way to pay the note. This is gonna get alot worse before it gets ANY kind of better.

Well part of the problem with some of the stores closing are people shopping at wal-mart or target etc instead of somewhere local
Not saying you should shop at a big box store and pay more, but some things the quality is better and near the same price as the chain/big box. Biggest area of that is in food.
Second problem was people open stores in a market that doesn't support them. a Boutique won't do well in a lower middle class neighborhood for example. I see it more in small towns then the big ones though

In San Antonio, for the most part, you wouldn't know anything was going on. Malls are still packed and people are still shopping. The restaurants seem like they have gotten busier. We went to Texas Roadhouse on my birthday (Thursday night) and there was a 2 hours wait. We then drove over to Olive Garden and waited 1 hour. That's Thursday. Friday and Saturday try going to any Chili's, Carino's, Roadhouse, Outback and see the wait. This is San Antonio, and people love to eat.
Now for some reason all the Marble Slabs started closing. Maybe it had something to do with them charging $5.00 for a scoop of ice cream.
I just did a search and in May we were #2 on the list of recession proof cities.

For once San Antonio has some good.

Re: You know the Economy is bad when...
The U.S. economy lost 467,000 jobs in June as the national unemployment rate rose to 9.5 percent, the government announced on Thursday morning. While that's only one-tenth of a percentage point from May, the current rate is the highest rate in 26 years.
"This is the only recession since the Great Depression to wipe out all jobs growth from the previous business cycle, a devastating benchmark for the workers of this country and a testament to both the enormity of the current crisis and to the extreme weakness of jobs growth from 2000-2007," said Shierholz in a statement.
We know the economy is bad :3
