I measured the attic temp today... and even though it is completely overcast outside, i.e. no sun hitting the roof, it is still 115F in the attic. Jesus. I'm guessing there's no easy fix for that.

Solar loading of an attic is hooj. Insulation is an underrated trade. The guys that do it right are worth every buck.

Hey Veovis, did you measure the depth of the insulation up there?

You should have 12" or more insulation. First layer run between the joists, the next perpendicular.

Move to Canada. It's fucking mid July and it's 14 degrees C outside!!)

Plus you won't need guns here, no people play nice here.....except for stupid garbage unions...

I've got a ceiling fan which I've used once for about 10 min this summer. I live on the 7th floor of an apt building in uptown Toronto. I wonder what August is gonna be like. Best person to ask is Al Gore me thinks! Or the Mayans!c

Nah, will try to get to that sometime soon. Or have a pro check it out.

City energy audit would be the way to go. An objective 3rd party.

I asked because that turned out to be the cause of why my ac didn't work properly. Pet hair gets past the filter and stuck to the evaporator or condensor whatever its called inside the airhandler. It causes the air to move properly by clogging it.

This causes the unit to freeze inside the airhandler allowing air to go around it instead of through it. So the air doesn't get brought down to temp. and you end up with a house at 84 when your looking for 73. That is the exact problem i had.

It doesn't take much hair to do it either and many pets tend to like sleeping in front of the intake vent because it's a little cooler but in my case that is not what happened. My dogs dont even really go near it but it still caused the problem even with changing the filter every 1 to 2 monthes.

Forgot to put in there the test for if this is the problem is easy. Turn the ac off but leave the blower motor running for the night. Turn the ac back on when your going to be there long enough to see if the house is going to come down in temp before it freezes again. If it gets to your desired temp and then starts to go up again after a couple hours then you know whats happening. Good luck if this solves it then the fix is quite easy. Repeat the process but before you turn the ac back on cut the insulation on the handler remove screws clean and reassemble.
