Thread: Your FPS history.. online

hey I am curious what kind of history y'all have as an online fps player..

I am not looking for all the games going back to DOOM etc that you AND I played alone on your 486 in 1994. I am talking about online play against others.

So mine is relativly breif.. Although i have been on computers and playing since 1992, i really only started with fps online in 2004..

Men of Valor - underated game that had some awsome online play... I played under the name "Lowjack" from oct 2004 to july 2005. Me and my m14 owned this game...I must have played 300+ hours and I swear i was the best at it.. shame was, not many servers and not many players..

CS:S - so i played some of hl2, got bored and figured i would try CS:S, i mean its free right? I started playing in June 2005 and still play today.. probably about 700+ hrs to date.

thats it.. I am still new to fps online play, its been great so far and should be interesting where it goes from here.

Well, since Counter-Strike and Team Fortress are the only online FPS I've ever played, I'm going all the way back to Doom, jackass. :twisted:

Doom on a Jaguar was my first experience when I was like 8 or 9.
Goldeneye and Perfect Dark multiplayer got me started on the multiplayer experience in the late 90s.
Started with Half-Life around 2001.
Got into Team Fortress in 2002.
Switched to Counter-Strike in late 2003.

Haven't gone with anything else since.

I think Quake 3 Arena was the first one I technically played online... I played whenever my brother wasn't home, using his name "Raven" or some shit.
I never had a computer of my own until about 2 some odd years ago.
but yeah, after I got my computer, and after I got tired of playing World of Warcraft (One of my first computer games.. :O), my brother gave me this disk full of all these Hl1 games... which most all of them I didn't play.. I only regularly played Day of Defeat...
And then, in the summer, or before the summer of 2005, I can't remember, my best friend's brother got this Hl2 disk with both Hl2, and CS:S, but his computer couldn't run it, so he gave it to me.. and I have him to thank for getting me into hardcore FPS gaming.
So yeah, I found TTP around August or July, and went through a BUNCH of names... all of them sucked total nuts.
And then... I bought both Bf2 and DoD:S mostly because TTP had been running a server for them.. and soon enough, I'll be getting 2142.
Wherever TTP treads, I will too.
But yeah, I've had a pretty short history in online FPS gaming. :P

Oh shit, I forgot. I actually played Duke Nukem online years and years ago (that was online, right?). Either it was online or I played a lot of custom shit on it, but I'm certain I played that online. If so, that was way back in the 90s.

First game I played online was when I was 6... Started out with Desent. Then escalated to Medal of Honor, then to the call of duties, then to BF2 then to CSS then Bf2142

online play against others....whoa in my "short" 18years...jebus, lol.

i started off on doom95 (i believe) played my uncle online all the time, then switched over to quake 2, and eventually found Weapons Factory, took a break for a little bit from computers and got into the console scene, left that for counterstrike/tfc in 99.

joined a TFC clan in 2000, won back to back to back TFL/STA/CAL gold/silver medals in the 7v7 leagues (my TFC clan was [DONG] (Death or No Glory). Made the main page of konspiracy.org for 500matches and we all had a review over the clans past and the outlook, which at the time was very strong. then our clan leader had a divorce from his wife, who was also a clan member...people left for jobs and such...bothered us all really cuz we were together for 3-4hours a night for 4years and then it all fell apart, we still join the mIRC channel once in awhile and talk with each other and have a little scrim.

then i switched over to xbox/ps2 online gaming again...said fuck that even though i still halo2 it up once in awhile on the 360, then i got into doom3...my shitty computer at the time couldn't handle it online very well, so i decided to just keep playin it in single player, and eventually beat it in nightmare, switched to quake4, beat that on the "impossible" setting....bought my current rig and FEAR....fell in love with that game because its so freaky and badass.

then decided to buy BF2 and SF, haven't looked back since....shit is spectacular and with =BSS= im glad to say its a very similiar environment to my old TFC clan that we all seem to come together and help each other out, and other players as well...we don't get pissed or anything, just all laid back....

just waiting for Team Fortress 2, and i might go buy 2142 if i can't torrent a working keygen for it.

In short, a brief 10year history of online FPS gaming....offline it'd be much longer. I've got the quazar, 3DO, nintendo w/power glove and duck hunt rifle, snes, ps1, ps2, xbox, 360, neo geo pocket, tons of old gameboys, etc. lol.

The first online FPS I realy got into competitivly was ET (Enemy Territory) Great game. It wasn't at all my firs FPS, but the first one I played competitivly for sure. Unreal Tournament was also big but I never got into it...was too much lame going on there.

hmm, i was gonna start with wolfenstien 3d, the Godfather of fps-ers, but since you said online play... :P

ima have to start with some duke nukem 3d (more lan play really); then some brief half-life, until half-life: team fortress classic was released, the best game ever :P , that i still play (granted, not quite as much as i used to ); coupla tries at cs (both engines) and dod (both engines); flicker of return to castle wolfenstien; a little stint with call of duty: united offensive (base assault usually); then along came bf2; and now some bf2142 as well. but always with a mix of tfc in the whole lot :P
