    Plaxico gets 2 years

ESPN is reporting this morning that Burress plead guilty and will serve 2 years in prison. Anyone else find this a little out of whack, considering what Vick and Stallworth got?

Vick was a federal case, Stallworth was a case in FL, if I'm not mistaken, at the county level, and Plexico was in NYC, right?

3 very different legal environments. And heck - even 3 judges in the same jurisdiction will sometimes rule differently depending on the case.

And didn't the family of the old man Stallworth kill settle and not press charges?

No Vick and Stallworth both got what they deserved. Even though Stallworth was drunk, the hit was unavoidable due to the actions of the dead guy. He basically jumped out in front of Stallworth. I don't condone Stallworth's condition but if he had ridden up on the curb and killed the guy then that would a whole different case.

As far as Plax goes, lock his ass up. Just another celebrity fool who thought the rules didn't apply to them.

I can see what you're saying, but at the sametime, the only thing he was guilty of, was not having a license for the gun in the proper state. He had one, but I believe it was for Florida only. Against the law, yes, so obviously some punishment is necessary, but 2 years for that? I think that's a little harsh. I highly doubt if it was a Regular Joe, that the prosecutors would have gone for such a high sentence.

I'm all for not letting off celebreties just because they are famous, but at the same time, if we want equality in the justice system, I dont believe we should treat them any harsher than the public either.

Several of his teammates had been robbed at gunpoint before, he had a weapon, it went off by accident in his pants, he had a license for it, but for the wrong state...2 years is a bit much.....especially considering they wanted to give him more, but he plead guilty to avoid that.

The real reason for it is NYC has gun problems. They have jacked the penalties on gun crimes way up as a deterrent. Kansas doesn't have a 3 strikes law, but we have a one strike "Hard 40" (no early release) for heinous crimes.

    Different laws for different places.

I think he got the minimum actually, initially they were pushing for 3 years. NY is serious about their gun licensing apparently. His license from Florida had expired, so even if they tried to tie it in, they couldnt. This isnt one of those "I didnt know" situations, the NY Giants (like all clubs) have a legal guy that gives them the spiel about all the local laws, every year. Be responsible, follow the local laws, and he has a funny story to tell over dinner at home, not in prison.

    er...maybe not funny.

Though in the case of Plex, he never follows rules anyways for the most part so he probably was off listening to his ipod or something during those talks on the local laws.

Thats possible, I know he was a head case in college. Ridiculous talent, and unfortunately he knew it. When he wanted to play he was pretty much unstoppable, I still remember him torching us in 2000.
