US scraps missile shield

Thoughts?
I personally am okay with it as I know there are other things afoot to provide the capability.

Re: US scraps missile shield
Time will only tell if this was a good move. I am on the fence. Russia is technically our ally but I trust them about as far as I could throw them. The shield does give us some leverage on them.
Be Polite, Professional, and have a plan to kill everyone. Just like the Tf2 Sniper.

Re: US scraps missile shield
Are we giving up on it or replacing it with another project designed to intercept what we think Iran is already capable of/will be capable of soon?
Granted I am not military, and some of the jargon gets lost on me, but it looks like we're going to protect against the short & mid-range missiles, which is the more immediate threat. Yes, it makes Russia a bit happier, and the people who live in the countries we were going to build the silos in, but we'll still be protected. I'd be upset if we said, scrap the whole idea, let's throw all of our eggs in the diplomacy basket, but this didn't read like that to me.
*we will still build some silos in those countries, just not as many.
If someone thinks I read it wrong, please feel free to enlighten me, I am by no means an expert on anything other than ancient warfare

Re: US scraps missile shield
I would argue that every single thing any Administration or Congress does is a political ploy.
However, are we really "Scrapping" anything? Yes, it's the word they're using, but I see it as replacing it with another plan. This is why I don't understand the folks that are saying that we're leaving ourselves open to attack and whatnot.
If you don't want to get a girl pregnant, and you switch from the sponge to say, a combo of foam and spermicide...you're still protected, just doing it a different way.
Also, if you're saying that these new products make the silos unnecessary, then aren't you happy we didn't go forward with building them?
It seems to me that you are more denigrating the reporting of the issue..them having worded it as scraping Bush's baby, in favor of something else, instead of simply saying they were updating Bush's plan. Total spin I agree, but so is everything. It's how policitians politicate. They've been doing it for eons.

Re: US scraps missile shield
Oh I didnt mean anything as complicated as that. Simply from a technology standpoint the proposed plan has become obsolete...but publicly we "scrap" the plan in a foreign policy gesture. I didnt mean to imply that they were slighting Bush...just saying that the capabilities are MUCH improved now.
