Ok guys im playing CS 1.6 this yesterday fine. Then i went out for the day. I went to play and i lagged every 30 secs. I said ok let me restart my PC. I did that. I go back to the game and still consistant. THen i asked my friend what the commadns to lower ur ping or w/e are and he gave me them. None worked. Then i turned off my pc and after 30 mins turned it back on. No luck again. Then i closed everything in my taskbar BUT steam and my wirless connection symble. Still no luck. Does any one have any ideas that could help me. I never reallyed lagged before. Like i did every once in a wile but not as bad as this!!
PLEASE HELP!

Well this is fucked. That did nothing at all!!!! IT maby helped a little bit but it still is fucked. my command numbers are:
rate 3500
cl_updaterate 60
cl_cmdrate 30

your rate is way low.

most people are in the 9000-20000 range. There are "rate recommendation" posts and discussions in the CS and DoD public forums.

if you're broadband, I would go with rate 20000, cl_cmdrate 50, and cl_updaterate 50, since those are the maxes allowed by our server.cfg.

also, if you're playing wirelessly.....cut that shit out. Someone's old wireless phone, cell phone, or even toaster oven can cause intereference and lag in your network. There's no reason to play wirelessly if you CAN play locally (plugged in), so get your ass a longer cord and do it.

also.......broadband ISP's lag now and then. Sometimes they have to go out for hours at a time. It happens. Call them, and have them check your line.

ALSO, do a tracert to the server, and check your pings

in a DOS window, type

tracert 70.84.14.138

and copy the contents to the tracert discussions we already have going.

I DONT KNOW How to do any of that shit..

NO i cant play wired....maby ill try.....but tis the cable compony serves....they reset like 4 times for Day light saving time shit....

can't play wired? i pity you. i have seen the horror that is wireless internet. so when i got broadband, i made sure that i got a physical connection, and NOT the eeeevil wireless.

hmmm. my cousins have wireless. they say it works fine, but every time i go over to their house, it fucks-up. we think that it's just that their comp hates me. actually, they think it hates me, i just think their connection is shit. i keep tellin 'em to go wired, but they just say "no, we'd have to run cable thru the walls and up the stairs"... excuses, excuses :P

And if you want to get your info from the steam forums, go right ahead. Other than checking steam for updates, I stay away from that voluteer-moderated, child infested wasteland.

If you are broadband, there is no reason to have a "rate" less than 10000. And yours is at 3500.
