A private school teacher who admitted having an unlawful relationship with a 15-year-old pupil has been jailed for 15 months at Southwark Crown Court.

Hmmm...interesting case this one. I suppose I agree with the judge.

True, the law in this case is clear, but I am glad the judge didn't go with the sentence the prosecutor wanted.

That's why we have legal age requirements for pretty much everything. A 15 year old's brain isn't even fully developed yet.

I don't feel remorse for the teacher. Yes, the girl consented but it is the teacher's responsibility as an adult to know this was wrong and more so her responsibility as an authority figure to impart such knowledge to the girl. I hope the parents properly punish and discipline their daughter though because she was also wrong for instigating this relationship.

I didn't say it was not wrong. I just don't think the punishment fits. It was consensual, not forced.

I think dismissal would have been more appropriate. Just my opinion.

Such a ruling would make for a very dangerous slippery slope of a precedent. Even if a child consents that holds no regard in court since they are not of age to do so. We cannot allow children the ability to consent because they could so easily be taken advantage of. Children will consent to things to appease an authority figure or because it is simply what the authority figure wants. Their concept of morality or ethics at that point is more "this is what is right and wrong because it is what authority figures tell me" than having an understanding of why something should be right or wrong from a cultural or even universal standpoint.
