    How about this ?
The Congress, who works so hard for us not reading bills and all, gives up their next raise, hell gives back their last raise and gives the money to the troops in theater, regardless of their enlistment status.
Maybe we could cut a few dollars out of TARP for them too, since we haven't spent all that money.
Hell, there is still a lot of stimulus money left, give all of that to troops too.
They will spend it and stimulate the economy and at the same time we all feel that the money is going to somebody who deserves it.
I am assuming you're talking to me about the police, fire department and other services being socialist comment. I wasn't saying that (Although it is true, it doesn't necessarily make it bad), I was arguing in that thread that I don't consider it a right to have these services, because they are a service and must be paid for.

And to Hawg, guilty as charged man. You're right on with your correction. Seems this thread is destined for derailment. :9

A large majority of service men save their money. And I mean SAVE it, as in throw it in your savings account and throw away the key. The only thing we would use that money for is more beer. Which I guess can't be too bad an industry to support

Second jobs to supplement Army pay? Do you mean AFTER they retire? Cause while you're in the Army gives you a VERY nice bag of cash to support your family, hell they'll even pay to send your spouse to college. After 13 hours of duties and all that I don't think I could imagine a guy wanting to go get a job rather than spend more time with his family before he deploys

Re: Troops to be Compensated for 'Stop Loss'

My experience was in 87-90 and it was 2 guys I knew but there were others, again purely anecdotal.

I would gladly give the salaries of Fox News to the troops.
But they are a private company that doesn't depend on tax money unlike say ..Charlie Rangel.

But if we pulled all the troops back and cut the military in half, we could afford to pay them double then couldn't we ?

I mean with amazing success of soft diplomacy we hardly even need a military at all.

Re: Troops to be Compensated for 'Stop Loss'

I just want to clear up that Welfare is not only for those who are too lazy to support themselves, it is actually unfortunate that people take advantage of the system. But my family was on welfare because my father passed away when I was really young. My mother had a full time job (public school teacher) and at times during the holidays a part time job when the big stores were hiring seasonal help. We barely kept afloat. Welfare helped her make ends meet even when I was working 20-30 hours a week through high school to help out.

So yes people abuse it but it is meant for good hardworking people too, when they are down on their luck.
