7 dead, 12 injured in Fort Hood shooting

At least seven people are dead and 12 wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, the base's public affairs office told NBC News on Thursday.

The official would not give his name nor additional details. It was unknown whether victims are soldiers or civilians. One gunman was reportedly in custody and another was on the loose, NBC News said.

NBC affiliate KCEN in Waco reported that the second suspect may be holed up in a building on the post.

The base was reportedly on lockdown. Two nearby school districts were also being locked down.

Fort Hood is adjacent to Killeen, and 60 miles northeast of Austin. The sprawling complex is home to at least 4,929 active duty officers and 45,414 enlisted. Civilian employees total nearly 9,000.

CNN had a Staff Sarg on saying there were more than 1 shooters, 1 has been caught they do not know how many else there are but know theres more. Casualties are unconfirmed though by this SSgt

This is fucking personal for me, I have had countless friends and family go through Fort Hood, and thank goodness for me and my family I have no friends or family there right now. Just made 10 phone calls to family a little bit ago to make sure of it.

Imagine if they had waited 10 or 15 minutes more before shooting off the rounds, all those kids would have been out of school all over the place.

And just now a writer for the Kileen Herald (Probably spelled that wrong?) said 6 of the killed where Military.
