    ebook readers

Yes I know there was a kindle thread... But tough!

That Sony PRS-505 I bought back in September? It was time to step up. Sony recently released the PRS-600 which is touch screen (without the PRS-700's issues) and the reviewers love it. Best Buy had them on display and I simply couldn't resist.

If you are looking for an e-reader, take a long look at this one. It's got most everything you'd want in an e-reader.

I have the 505 and love it, but I'm holding out on anything new until the Nook. It seems to have everything the Sony has but with even more. Not to mention you can lend your book out for 14 days (although only once per book) and it comes with free AT&T 3G (even though AT&T is quite terrible)

Back on target though, how is the new 600? I remember the touch screen being a bit weird to read through, and it wasn't verry snappy. Reading quality / speed up to par now?

yeah I was eyeballing the nook as well, but the gadgety lower touch screen was it's only real draw for me. I don't care about the 3G really.

I want it to read books only. I don't care about loaning books... or downloading them... so I'm sure that the 3G is good for someone but not me.

The touch screen is just as good as the 505 now. They got rid of the side lights that the 700 had which is what caused the problems with readability before.

The ONLY thing I don't like about the sony's is the insanely slow reindexing time that happens if you put the books on a memory card instead of on it's internal memory. Other than that it's excellent.

The drawing program is even pretty slick though I doubt I'll use it. Being able to take notes and highlight things is pretty nice. And you can double click on a word in your books and it will bring up the oxford dictionary definition for it.

I can't stand reading ebooks. I tried it once and it just didn't work out for me. I understand the appeal, and I understand the technology. I just can't "get" it.

I just bought the kindle 2 and love it. Free 3G and books are downloaded in under 30 seconds. I was going to wait for the NooK but like the original kindle I figured it would have way to many flaws in its first generation that I would stick with the proven kindle 2

See for most people I don't really find it too necessary, especially if you have a library nearby, or if you want to actually purchase the book. The biggest turn on for me was I spent 2 semesters in china and access to books that I actually wanted to read, and in English, wasn't the easiest thing.. so it was either bring a ton of books with me, or carry a ton of them in a single ebook reader. I love my reader and use it all the time, but nothing will ever, ever, replace the feeling of real books (and the smell is pretty awesome too, although I'm not really sure why).
