What can beat a lightsaber in melee combat?
As an existing weapon, I would choose a Benelli M4 Super 90. Can't understand much from the name? The picture will help you.
YES, the auto-shotgun!!!

In a zombie apocalypse I would pick a shotgun or any weapon I can get a hold of and be able to discard it without much regret. Carrying tons of powerful weapons is a good idea but I will probably use them once than toss them out mostly because I won't be able to find suitable ammunition for that special gun or just won't give that much of a care when I'm neck deep in zombie shit.
Also remember you got to travel light and be able to run real fast, can't have heavy equipment weighing me down.

okay, there is a couple things I would like to address here. One would be the fact that firearms should not be your primary concern. Melee is 10x safer for the reason it is silent. Popping off rounds will only attract more and waste the precious ammunition that will be looted very quickly. I'd save the firearms for the healthy people that will be after my supplies and life. And I can hear it now! "But Cthulhu, I will get a silencer!" Yeah....about that, cans are a bitch to find and you know what ones are around will be looted along with the ammunition. You don't need high caliber either, just means louder discharges. And these called' headshots. Not as easy as one would think. For one, soldiers, no matter from where, are trained for center mass shots. Yes, the chest folks. Which as we know, as far as the popular image of zombies, which is impossible for a multitude of medical reasons. But we're not gonna get into that in this thread. Not to mention the psychological stress involved with a epidemic of the sort, you would have no concentration to pull off perfect head shots every time. And any altercations with the living dead should be avoided at all costs. A martyr never saved anyone. I would say a nice baseball bat, some goggles and a bandanna or facemask of some sort to keep infected fluids out of your eyes and mouth in the case of an actual altercation with the "walking dead". And like someone posted, reloading magazines is not exactly a speedy task. Though a 9mm handgun would be nice to have for the simple fact, ammo is plentiful. A nice rifle would be something with a reach, but once again, a plentiful supply of ammo. Romak PSL, shoots the 7.62x54, which is the same thing as a .308! Good for long distance shots (should be avoided) and it can be quite visa versa for medium to somewhat close range, though at that point a melee is the best bet.
