Kind of the problem i have at the moment, going to get phones at Verizon later today, but at the moment stuck between a dumbphone and a smartphone. Now things could change depending on what they have in stock etc. but still.
Basically i use my current phone for text messaging, picture messaging, and calls. I would like to get some games on there that aren't too expensive (try finding that). The big thing i could see me using on a phone would be google maps. It would be nice when looking for something while on the road or out-of-town to be able to pull up a map and find it (and get directions). I could live without web browsing outside of that (but not like i couldn't use it).
However if i get a smartphone, i'd have to get a $30 a month data plan (5gb but still). And thats basically whats been making it hard to decide. For what i want want (call, text, google maps whenever) is it worth it or should i stick with a regular (dumbphone :P) and save the money?
(posted it here as couldn't pick a category i felt it fit best in)

Re: To smartphone or not to smartphone?
I was wanting a blackberry, never had one, went to verizon and played with the tour and the storm. I really liked the storm, previously I didnt think I would be able to use a touch screen. I absolutely love it. I browse with it some, I have a sports app that gives scores to just about any kinda sport you could want. I use the hell out of the VZ navigator, it has a yellow pages type lookup, no need for 411. The maps are useful for finding streets, I have used it when responding to fire calls.
You will use it more than you think. The best part is getting my emails on it. I have 3 email addresses and they all come to my phone. I can delete crap I dont want right away, and only go to my inbbox on the computer when I know there is something I need to look at. You can even open most attatchments. I email pictures at work, snap a picture and email it to the vendor and get the issue resolved.
Having a $200 phone bill is the downfall(3 phones and a wife who talks way to damn much)

If you are doing version consider the droid. It is a sweet phone.
I am stick with T-Mobile so i will be getting there version, the Cliq.
The android based phones have a ton of apps with more coming out all the time. Two guys I work with each got one. One the Droid the other the Cliq both are ecstatic with their phones.

Re: To smartphone or not to smartphone?
I just became a smart phone user last month for the first time. I use my phone all the time. Maps, texting, surfing (didn't think I would use it much but I do), sports scores etc. I bought the mytouch from T-Mobile. Absolutely love it.

Re: To smartphone or not to smartphone?
Quite honestly, once you get a smart phone, you will never want to go back. Especially when you sync it up to outlook and have all your emails going into outlook. Its is such a time saver. Which reminds me....I need to go clear out my various inboxes and reconfigure outlook. But why bother when I am going to move to win7 in a month anyways? Still. Smartphones are the way to go.

Re: To smartphone or not to smartphone?
Just went to Best Buy and bought some headphones. Looked up the price by scanning the barcode with my phone and found out bestbuy.com had them on sale. They honored that price. Yes I could have looked it up at home and printed it out, but it was an unplanned purchase. Hey I have to find ways to justify my smart phone.
