...and this is why when a 10 y/o shoots up a school people all cry about how 'they never saw it coming' or 'I didn't think he was capable of something like this.....'

so a 10 year old hits you over the head with a pipe, and since you can bench however the hell much you bench and run however far you run everyday. your skull will have the power to reflect the damage of the pipe?
yea im sure that will work.
i dont give a damn if your 5 or 95. if your swinging shit around like that and I have a taser i will taze your ass.

I look at like this. If it was me and i had to choose between beating a kid down, shooting him, or shocking his ass I would shock him and i say why. Shooting him is just wrong even if he did throw shit at the cop. Beating him down will get a law suit and you might hurt your hands. So shocking his ass means no permanent damage to any one involved. Of course there's always that chance that he has a heart problem but in either scenario the same rick applies.
Beside how many of us can say we have never seen a kid acting like an asshole to the point you didn't think to yourself will someone just beat that little bastard back into place. Maybe this was just his turn and who know this may have changed his entire out look on what is tolerable behavior.

You guys are underestimating the power of crazy 10 year olds. When my brother was 11, he went berserk over some stupid thing and wacked me with a baseball bat. Broke my arm. DO NOT underestimate what adrenaline can do to a person.
The Officer had 4 choices.
A) Beat him down. Possible court case, and long lasting injuries.
b) shoot him. Not acceptable at all.
C) Let him get into close range. With a out of control person with a weapon? I don't care if hes 10, or a 100, I am not letting someone within melee range of me if I can help it.
D) Tase him. Hurts like a bitch, but disarms him and leaves no permanent damage.
He made a judgement call, and it was the right one.

Article fails to mention if contact or probe mode was used. I also missed the title of the thread...Deputies...not a lone officer hmmm..
We were given strict rules on when and who to deploy it on.. Children, Elderly and Pregnant Women are a no no
Was the deputy who used it fully qualified to do so?
Taser is your 3rd out of 4 options.

Many departments require that you be tazed before you can carry one.
Oh and I definately believe a child even at 10yo can bust someone up pretty good. I am quite certain that using a snap of my wrist and a 12" piece of pipe I could put out enough force to break a bone. Much less a longer pipe with a full swing.
