Actually, as a lawyer this makes perfect sense. In fact it probably make more sense for the prosecution than the defense. Here's how, it based on the article it looks like there will be one or more eyewitness accounts and often id's are based on prominent features like tattoos - if this guy had a number of new tattoos thats something the defense could use to discredit the witness "which tattoos are new, so you remember seeing X etc". Furthermore, even with those tattoos covered this guy will be easy to paint as a Nazi scum bag - the new tattoos are over kill and I don't need em.

The main thing though is that by covering the tattoos you have just eliminated a potential ground for appeal of any guilty verdict. That is judicially economical as it reduces the likelihood of a reversal on appeal and a new trial therefore saving the taxpayers money.

Also, I say if the prosecution is opposed to it they make a motion to have the heat cranked up to 80, then when he sweats his ass of on the stand all will be revealed.

I agree with Consultant I think it was, who said that he should be able to cover up whatever he wants, but not at tax payer's expense.

as for the race thing, go to jury duty and say you hate black people, or mexicans or etc. etc. and see how fast they pick you

The court doesn't decide if the person is guilty.. the jury does. The jury is made up of the defendants peers - there will be people of his same race and sex... plus a mix of other races and sexes. So to say the courts are biased... is... insane.

Most people, regardless of race, are gonna see the swastika and other Neo-Nazi shit and go "oh wow he's a shitbag lynch him." Personally, I don't care either way... it's definitely a smart move by his lawyer to get that stuff covered up, but if the man's already guilty of the crime... the hell does it matter if he gets convicted because he's a shitbag Neo-Nazi or because he did the actual crime? Still in prison either way.

How would you propose getting a relatively balanced jury pool for this guy? Half Neo-Nazi "Aryans" and half minorities? Heh.

Depends on the case. If you said you hated blacks, and the case was some black guy allegedly murdering some white people the prosecution would love you, and the defense hate you, so you would be out. In the same case if you were in this jury pool, and said you hate white people, or even more so hate racist white people, you would be out.
