I've never been to Thailand, but have heard nothing but good things about it for a loooooong time. So I'm really looking forward to it. I'm flying out on Jan.12 and my return is scheduled for the 24th, but that just might change if i decide to do the Tiger Muay Thai. :9

Thailand is an awesome place. If you are looking for decent bang for your buck, head to the northern part (like Ching Mai, Ching Rai). Definitely watch out for the the transexuals. Find a reputable jems dealer and you can get some great deal on jewelry and stuff (for selling back here in the states). Jade especially is very cheap over there.

Only other thing coming to mind, is at least in the north (it may be different in the south) most of the stuff looks like rundown buildings, no matter how good or bad they are. Also try to go somewhere with free breakfast (again this wasn't at the resorts in the south so may be different down there), its like a big fucking buffet and so good.

err one more thing, don't get any breakfast sausage. 99% of the time it tastes like utter shit

Not sure if I'm gonna be able to make it up to the Chiang Mai part of the country, but have heard it's a good place to visit though. I plan on staying in Bangkok only a day or 2 and taking a fishing trip to Ratchaburi Lake, then flying down to Koh Samui, then possibly Pattaya and/or Phuket. If I do the Tiger Muah thai, I'll end up in Phuket.
I want to get off the beaten path a little though at some point, outside of the heavy tourist areas. Which Chiang Mai area kind of sounds like it would be, just not sure if i'll have enough time to go up there.
