You mentioned that some places serve the white wines too cold, white wines are supposed to be served chilled while reds are supposed to be served at room temperature. Reds are actually supposed to be stored at ground level and out of the light. Many people simply stand them up on the ground to achieve ground temperature.

I love red wine. I am not very picky though. I think there are many really good reds for around $10-$12. My norm is 47# rooster cab, Mondavi cab or Barefoot cab. Special occasions I may go for Dynamite, Wild Horse or Rodney Strong. I do not believe in spending more than $20 on a bottle. I have had plenty in the past over $20 and they are not any better or worse than the $20 or less wines.
I do not care for white wine.
