Speaking of Spanish wines. We found a fairly inexpensive Spanish red wine we like quite a bit. Tapeña Tempranillo. It was like $9 on sale and it was actually really quite good.

We also have found some great Chilean wines as well. Caliterra makes several good wines. We've enjoyed their Sauvingnon Blanc as well as their Shiraz. Both are under $20 a bottle.
Can't get Tapeña Tempranillo here but I can get Caliterra... I'm going to grab a bottle today!

Argentinian wines do tend to be a bit on the heavier side. Then again, they are one of the prime areas to get a good, and I mean really good, piece of red meat. Its amazing though, how most people (in the world) thought that only the French, Spanish and Italians know how to produce wine. Once they taste a good merlot or cab from Cali, Texas or NY/NJ...its quite surprising.

I tend to prefer the medium weighted reds, smooth and fruitier/sweeter. My folks on the other hand prefer the heavier Cabernet Surveignons though.

I like the Merlots and the Cabs. Usually buy Kendall Jackson or Rutherford Hill for everyday drinking, however I try all of them. I have a bottle from Spain that was inexpensive and it was pretty good....just can't remember the name here at work. I have found that the Australian wines are pretty good as well. Very smooth. I have probably a 75 bottle collection with dates going back to 94.

I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!

shit...'94? Hope your wine collection is in a cool, dark, dry location. I just may have to take a little trip over to your house sometime.

Xav...how are the Chilean wines? I really haven't heard much.

Thank God that Strawberry Hill, Boone's Farm and MD 20/20 haven't made any lists yet! I thought they'd be the top 3 in all college kids' budget cellars!

They go fine w/spam on toast or left over Dominoes pizza! Wonderful bouquet and STRONG finish...real sorority panty removers!

just pip in that it is indeed a great book, for both food lovers and those looking to run/open a restaurant.

As for wines, haven't had any besides once or twice (and cheap nasty crap at that) but do love almost any sauce made with a red wine

EDIT: On tequilla, anyone ever tried Mescala(spelling?). Not a liquor person but parents like it and have a neighbor that usually brings some up from Mexico. Its supposed to be pretty strong and have a good smoky flavor. I pretty call it Mexican Moonshine but yea
