As for wines, haven't had any besides once or twice (and cheap nasty crap at that) but do love almost any sauce made with a red wine

EDIT: On tequilla, anyone ever tried Mescala(spelling?). Not a liquor person but parents like it and have a neighbor that usually brings some up from Mexico. Its supposed to be pretty strong and have a good smoky flavor. I pretty call it Mexican Moonshine but yea
I've had it several times and several types. It is a similar taste to Anejo (aged) tequilas. True mezcal, like peyote can have hallucinogenic effects, but you'll be wasted by the time you get to that point. If it contains mescaline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mescaline), then it is not legal for sale in the US, I think. It is ceremonial for some tribes of Indians and legal to them on reservations.

The darker and older tequilas are smoother than the platas and repasados. I am picky with most hard liquor, because I rarely mix anything into them. There are so many flavors of good tequila out there, you really have to scour the web and read. Same is true with bourbons and whiskeys. Small batch FTW! Cost more, taste better and less likely to induce hangovers.

Dude...the best tequilas you'll ever have are Don Julio and Herradura...look no further.

Grab a glass of your favorite tomato juice or tomato mix (v8 etc)... and a glass of tequila....take a sip of your tequila and down it with a small sip of tomato juice...I promise you'll go through the bottle and not even feel it. That's the right way to drink tequila.

Speaking of Spanish wines. We found a fairly inexpensive Spanish red wine we like quite a bit. Tapeña Tempranillo. It was like $9 on sale and it was actually really quite good.

We also have found some great Chilean wines as well. Caliterra makes several good wines. We've enjoyed their Sauvingnon Blanc as well as their Shiraz. Both are under $20 a bottle.

So after much searching no luck, but they have an order going out - they did have some Casillero del Diablo but at the time of me being there I had not read your post Xav However I did get my new wine of the month I've been try various Ciantis and Argentina wines over the last few months so I figured a trip back to the US was in order...

    I picked up a Paso Creek Cabernet-Sauvignon 2006.

Now you're probably wondering why it's in bold and red.... Well I had an idea.

Now I will be honest and say that I was shocked at the interest in this thread - I'm used to having beer, shooting people in BF2 and occasionally discussing the beers we drink - I WRONGLY assumed that most of us didn't drink wine. I remember hearing {HRD} Bobby after a glass of wine (Was a treat btw... Some people just cant hold their liquor).

It's Friday the 15th 10AM here. I'll most likely be trying the wine tonight or tomorrow night... I was going to post my opinion on the wine on Sunday or Monday. So this is what I propose. For those of you wine lovers or wanna-be wine lovers, grab a bottle of the aforesaid bold-red-assed-wine thats above. We'll all indulge it over the weekend and post it up in here with comments Sunday or Monday. It'll be interesting to see what people think of it... I wouldn't mind participating in 1 bottle a week and having this a regular thing.

Also as you all know the site is migrating bit by bit to TPG. I never blog and figured why not try it out, I wrote a introduction into the tasting of wine - kind of a first hand experience thing. Check it out if you're interested, post comments or PM me if you need more info!

Oh so for the wine of the week... Who would be interested? You don't have to buy the wine of the week it'd be nice if a handful of peeps participated... I'm in

Now I doubt you can get Chinese wines in the states, but try one if you can for the sheer shottyness of it.

Oh I'd be very interested, it's just a matter of actually buying the wine isn't so easy for me =p.

On a side note, I tried Little Penguin Pinot Noir today and thought it was quite terrible. It may have just been a bad bottle but I did not enjoy it at all.

Also, the blog thing sounds awesome, I'd totally read that.

Sounds good I'll post it up there on TPG in the upcoming weeks!

So I tried the Paso Creek, not as good as I was hoping still nice though - a little on the fruity side, the tannins beefy too. I'm not convinced it's worth the $19 I paid for it - tastes like it should be cheaper Oh well, it's still very drinkable and will go nice with a stew or shepherds pie Anyone else get round to trying this wine?

    Re: Let's Talk Wine!

I did not get around to trying it, but choose another one, and I'll see what I can do about getting a bottle. Knoxville isn't that great when it comes to imported beer or good wine usually, but there are some places I can try.. Just need to convince someone to go shopping with me :P.

If it's a more common vineyard I should be alright. I'm quite excited for this whole wine tasting weekly thing.
