    Test Drive a Mahindra

Mahindra is going to show off it's new line of trucks this year around the country and you can sign up to test drive it if it is in your area.

I'm kind of excited about this because nobody in the US makes a light truck worth a damn with a diesel engine. Mahindra's is supposed to be able to haul 1.32 tons making it the best pick up coming out in towing/hauling capacity. It is also supposed to be able to get 30mpg highway with its 2.2L diesel engine. I'm interested in the 4 door truck to haul the kids, but they have a normal pick up and an SUV. They seemed to have picked up a lot of the GM dealerships that lost sponsor last year.

Assembled in the US, so they are bringing jobs here while GM is losing them. Not to mention keeping car lots in business that would otherwise be out a sponsor. These guys are like the old International company, they make mostly tractors and agricultural vehicles the world over.

Funny how many folks used to say the same thing about those damned 'jap' cars, but now around here there would be a lot less industry if it wasn't for the Toyota plant. Bet half the shit in your house is made in China too.....

Not to mention that most of the parts in Fords and Chevys are made in Japan and elsewhere....and then shipped here for assembly.

If this thing is even mildly successful,it will most likely push Ford,Chevy, and Dodge to come up with their own small diesel trucks.

    Re: Test Drive a Mahindra

If a car company in the US can come out with a light truck that is diesel and is as low cost as these are supposed to be then I will buy that. Until then though I'm keeping my eyes on these.

Why does being a Union member have to do anything with buying American?

I 'try' to buy US produced products as well, but as long as our economy is the way it is it is going to be damn near impossible. I won't go broke doing it, especially when I have a family to take care of.

A lot of companies already make small diesel trucks but will not sell them in the US because they do not think there is a demand for it. If Mahindra does do well then they might offer their products here in the US and perhaps lead to more use of diesel, which really is not a bad thing since diesel can be made a lot cleaner than gasoline while still retaining its power.
