An email I wrote.
Got some slack from a beloved family member for what I said about religion. I am grateful to have grown up around the people I have, I am a better man for it. If not for their example I would not be able to articulate what I wrote below.
If prayer has power
Good day American Christians,
I am a soldier in the army of the United States of America. I have repeatedly heard, nearly every time I am out in public while in uniform, that peoples Christian prayer are with me in my work. I am asking that if you truly and absolutely believe that such prayers help in my duties, I beg you to stop praying on my behalf. I do not need your prayers, because I am competent in the face of vile men. I do not want your prayers, because I have the courage to face such men with out aid. I would not ask you to offer such heart felt prayer because I neither need nor want it.
Next time you sit with your family for a meal pray for the child, who somewhere at that very moment, is sitting trembling in fear of their fathers wicked sexual desires in the night.
The next time you pray before sleep, ask aid for the woman who, that very same night, will awake to see a man who entered her home with evil intent.
The next time you feel the love of your close family members, pray for the family, who in some remote lawless nation, is huddled in terror of armed men bent on killing them for no more reason then a difference of tribe or creed.
These are people who are in need of divine help. These are people who want you to beseech on their behalf. These are people who would ask you to do so.
If your conscious dictates that you include an American soldier in your prayer I would rather you ask for this.
Ask god to place an American soldier between that corrupt man and the child who will suffer his indulgences. I would gladly rip such a man limb from limb.
Ask god to place an American soldier between the woman with little chance of defending her self and the man who would violate her. Such a man would not find me such easy prey.
Ask god to give an American soldier the chance to protect that unarmed family from genocide. For I would not hesitate in saving them.
If you believe that prayer has power start using it where it is needed, wanted and asked for. If not, I would say you are not Christ-like nor Christian. I would tell you how weak you are to pray for my safe return, because it would appease your conscious. I would share that I am more then ungrateful for your prayer, it is far worse, I am indifferent because I am an Atheist and I am more a force for good then the unneeded, unwanted and unasked for prayers you offer on my behalf.

Anyone else? I am done being meek about my disbelief in a dogma that compels people to be wicked to someone whose character they do not know. I am done staying quite about the ignorance that belief in the bible propagates in our country. It is destructive. Be moral and good because you know it is the better way, not because some 2,000 year old book says so, that allows you to think about what true morality is, instead of just accepting the bibles poor version of it. I am willing to keep my dislike for the idea of god to my self from now on, only if you respect my wish for you to keep your belief to your self in return. If not we can and will argue, and I am more then a match for any refutation of my lack of faith.

Although I may disagree with you, in beliefs. I do feel many 'religous' people forget about others they should be praying for.
I wish well for all and pray for the world. In my belief, you pray for everyone. No matter how much they hate you. I try to disclude hate in my thoughts of others and wish eternal peace for all.
I believe in a creator, God. I do not believe in religion, I do not believe in Holy War. I believe in love.
So Pint if you desire no prayer, I give love.
Be safe, in all things, remember that others have you in their thoughts.
