Defensive Professors
Got our mid terms back, everyone failed, average is literally a 22 out of 100. Myself included, honest opinion, he did not teach us the material that was covered in the exam, and teaches out of book so its of no help.
So for half an hour he goes on and on about how the test was a disaster, places the blame on us, says his two small practice sheets were enough to prepare (they were not, not when the entire class doesnt even know the material, let alone able to practice it). We get this long speech about oh this is a great university .... "cannot pass you if you do not know anything"...
Then one of the students raises point of the fact that if the entire class failed, and he refuses to curve the test, then it was HIS fault that we were ill prepared and is his duty to correct this... theres a lot of 4.0 gpa's in here (myself included), whos gpa's will be smashed because of this guys pride. Dude gets wickedly defensive and flustered (English is clearly not his first, second, or third language (he pauses damn near every sentence to think through the translation in his head)). My study group hit the 40's... wtf...
I even asked him about extra credit, was very respectful, in short mearly asked if there was any extra credit available. Then he goes on a tangent about how no one should have been surprised by this exam blah blah blah blah. Then we finally get a extra credit problem out of him, the problem is clearly impossible (half because it requires an equation that he supposively gave but no one seems to have (and of course hes the type that refuses to repeat himself) and half its so unbelievably over complicated, youll never hear that coming from me....)
Shall be going to the dean after this class...

Re: Defensive Professors
heh, I remember when I took heat and mass transfer, i heard horrible things about this brasilian professor and about how she would fail entire classes to the point that if you were a senior you would be sticking around for another year.
Well, on the midterm I crammed hard and the day came when she passed them back out. She started calling out names and mine was first, I go up and receive my test back and I get a 95. I kinda phased out her voice as she was speaking to the class while I was looking at my test. The 5 points I missed were for something stupid. I sat down and people around me were like "good job." Then everyone else started getting their tests back and It occurred to everybody that she's passing them out in order of grade achieved. Second highest grade was 40, lowest was 8, by the time everyone had their tests back, they were all mad at me. I promised them all that on the final I would study less and ended up getting a 24 on the final which ended up being the lowest grade, lol.

Yeah I had one class where she didn't teach anything, and no one new what was going on. I had a 50% or less on both the midterm and final, but somehow my grades were magically curved to above 90%... so I never learned anything, had no idea what was going on... but I got an A!

And Bunni, just be glad he isn't the type of professor that decides to only give out two As a semester (I have luckily always been one of those two). A friend of mine should've had an A in an honors Medieval/Renaissance literature class we took together, but she gave him an 89 since the two A's had already been handed out. He got a little mad at me because of that.
I also had a Sunday school teacher who took an accounting class where the prof curved everybody on a bell curve. The lowest grade in the class was a 92 before the curve. After the curve, that became an F. My teacher got a 98, which netted a B.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Man bunbun that sucks.... I think in many if not all of the cases where the entire class fails a test/course the teacher always gets hit comupance. And that bell grade curve is fuckin retarded. You apply the curve if needed you dont apply it to everything. What if everyone got a 100 and one kid got a 95? 20 A's and 1 F? Some teachers need to fuckin learn how to teach.
