Re: End of Toyota?
I have a 1990 Buick Lesabre and I've never had problems. The only problem is that the hood latch cable is frayed and it's a bitch to open the hood, oh and the fact that the lights are manual and i sometimes forget to turn them off and kill the battery, but that's my own damn fault.
I plan on sticking with buicks for quite a while.

(Reuters) - General Motors Co is recalling 1.3 million compact cars in North America to address a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury, the company said on Tuesday.
U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation on January 27 into approximately 905,000 Cobalt models in the United States after receiving more than 1,100 complaints of power steering failures. The complaints included 14 crashes and one injury.
The recall covers the 2005-2010 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007-2010 Pontiac G5 in the United States; 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada, and the 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico, GM said in a statement.
GM said it told the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the voluntary recall on Monday after concluding its own investigation that began in 2009.
GM said the affected vehicles can be still be "safely controlled" but it may require greater steering effort under 15 mph. Drivers will see a warning light and hear a chime if the power steering fails.
"After our in-depth investigation, we found that this is a condition that takes time to develop. It tends to occur in older models out of warranty," GM Vice President of Quality Jamie Hresko said in the statement.
"Recalling these vehicles is the right thing to do for our customers' peace of mind," he said.
GM said it is currently developing a remedy to fix the problem and will notify customers when the plan is finalized.
The recall comes at a time of heighten public and regulatory scrutiny over vehicle safety issues in the wake of massive recalls by Toyota Motor Corp.
Toyota global quality control chief Shinichi Sasaki and North American President Yoshimi Inaba are scheduled to appear before a Senate committee on Tuesday for a third hearing on its handling of consumer complaints about sudden acceleration.
Back in 2005 there were 800,000 SUVs GM made that were recalled for bad brake lines.... It was terrible that the family in that Lexus lost their lives and good that Toyota is fixing the problem, but I truly believe that this is being 'super hyped' by the media.

deathgodusmc: what years are both of them? i'm looking at getting the new 2011.
Toyota's future really hangs in the ballance because people are still saying that the problem still occurs even after they been fixed. They can't just half-ass fix it like it sounds like. I know i wouldn't continue owning a car or truck by fixing iy half-ass and the problem still occurs.

People can say what they want to but i've been in flooring for 15 years and have seen every type of vehicle being used. None of which match what the fords can do on a daily bases without breaking down.
I also have to take into consideration i dont think like most when it comes to my work truck. Most spend money on there nice car and dont worry about the work truck because it's just that a work truck. Well i look at it like this. That is my work truck its what gives me the ability to own the other vehicles in my driveway. It should be taking care of equal to if not better than those because it is my lively hood.
So yeah she gets beat up daily by the weight she is required to hual but on the down time service never stops. I change the tranny filter and flush the fluid in my driveway as well as change the fluid in the rear end. What i think she might need gets done by me so i know it has been done right without skipping anything. An oil change isn't just an oil change. It comes with new air filter, fuel filter, plugs, wires, pcv, and cleaning the trottle body out. Is it over board alittle? Sure but it's the same reason it still runs like new.

Re: End of Toyota?
We own 2 fords(2007 F250 and 2001 Focus) and 2 Toyotas(2008 Solara Convertible and 2010 Prius....we bought it despite the recall a couple of weeks ago). Before the prius, my stepdad had a 4-runner from 1987 and it still ran great. Its difficult to compare the quality from past vehicles with vehicle now because of the complexity of things today. My Focus gets the general things here and there, but the F250 has had a lot of problems come up.
The guy in California didn't get his fixed, he got the letter and went to the dealership and the dealership said he didn't need it when he really did. That is the dealer's fault. Also, the guy had 2 options..1: shift into Neutral 2: hold down the power button for more than 3 seconds. SIMPLE. As someone who got one recently, I know the instructions that say that came on the little hangy thing that explains how to start your car with the push-button. Also I hear that his claim that he held the brakes down was proven wrong by investigators. They said it was intermittently pressed in bursts. LERN YUR CARZ PEPLES!!!
